Artist Statement

Going from mind, to sketch book, to physical garment that can be worn has always been a magical process to me. Being able to be creative and produce something tangible from one’s mind has always amazed me. I think that fashion is all about creating something new and innovative. It should be playful and unique and inspire something within us. That is why my piece is called “Magic Bubble.” My inspiration was the fictional character Glinda the Good Witch from the Wizard of Oz. She was fun to pull inspiration from, she brings out our inner enchantment. I used the theme of the bubble she comes down in throughout the piece. This can be seen in the roundness of the full flare skirt, the puffiness of the sleeves, and the pearls on the fabric that add a little something extra to the design. I used a round sweetheart neckline because I felt that was a good representation of what Glinda stands for. The soft pink fabric matches her gentle personality. I hope the viewers can feel a little sense of magic from this piece. That they can feel inspired to look inside and remember their inner child, and their imagination that causes creativity to break through the surface.
