Taylor McNair: Hubble: An Alien Dating Game

Artist Statement

As a designer, I am very inspired by some of the digital party games that already exist, and I am personally motivated to make people laugh by including humor in all aspects of my work to make the world immensely more tolerable. These three posters are a walkthrough of a digital party game that I created. It can be enjoyed by having one main screen that all the players can see and with everyone else having their own individual devices. Players answer questions, fill in prompts, and send their best pickup lines to try to create the most liked, most swiped-right-on, and most charming dating profiles possible to gain the most points.

The freedom that I was able to have in creating a game like this was ultimately very freeing in a job that typically is filled with brand standards and rules. I wanted to create illustrations of something that didn’t exist, and therefore the “rules” would become much more sparse. I created this world and these creatures to inspire and surprise the players and to be an overall atmosphere of something of another world.
That is what I feel like many of us need now: humor and a place to go that feels like an escape. This game was created to provide community within groups of friends, and to use these other non-existent creatures to reference a part of our humanity in a way that is relatable, light-hearted, and individualized with each new group that plays.
