Because of wartime censorship, little was reported about the deathly illness sweeping Europe and the port cities of the United States. In Columbia, Missouri, the first hint of the flu came by way of a column in the Evening Missourian on June 28, 1918, by Leonard C. Fry, serving with the 97th Company in France.
