How to Use the Collections

It is the policy of Special Collections and Archives to provide all patrons--University of Missouri faculty, staff, students or members of the general public--with professional, equitable, and courteous reference service. Materials in Special Collections and Archives are not browsable, and most cannot be checked out. In order to use materials, patrons must schedule a research appointment, and staff will retrieve materials from the closed stacks. Librarians can help patrons identify materials of interest.

Patrons may also need to show a photo identification card, which may be either an MU ID card or another official identification card such as a driver’s license. For more information on using the book collections, please see Reading Room Rules.

Please note: the stair lift that provides ADA access to 4 West is not reliable. Please let us know if you have mobility concerns, and we will schedule your research appointment on an accessible floor in the library. Contact the MU ADA Coordinator with any concerns.
