Requesting Instruction Sessions
Special Collections instruction sessions are hands-on and interactive, and the process of developing a lesson plan for a course is very collaborative. Please keep in mind the following information before requesting one of our instruction sessions:
- Special Collections requires instructors to request sessions at least two weeks in advance of the preferred session date. Because of the high demand for courses, please request your session as early as possible in the semester.
- We have limited availability for teaching sessions every semester. After completing the session request form below, a librarian will confirm your booking via email. The librarian might also email you if they need additional information to develop the lesson plan. Submitting a request form does not guarantee we can schedule your session as requested.
- Our classroom has capacity for up to 25 students per session. If your class has a larger number of students, we will schedule two separate sessions. We will also limit the number of special collection items to up to 15 per session.
- Our classroom is located in 406 Ellis Library. If you need an accessible classroom, please indicate this in the request form so we can schedule the session in another classroom. If your accessibility needs change after confirming the session, please email us as soon as possible to find an alternative classroom.
- Instructors and departments should request multiple sessions for a course during the semester before the session is to take place or during the summer break (in case of the fall semester).
- Instructors must ask their students to complete the Material Handling Tutorial ahead of their Special Collections session. All students and instructors must abide by our Reading Room Guidelines to ensure the safety of materials.
