Provenance

In 1968, the Library of the University of Missouri-Columbia purchased this collection from the bookseller William Salloch. Mr. Salloch stated that the collection was not only the Fragmenta Manuscripta, but also a companion volume of Fragmenta Varia, now in the University Library, Cambridge. The collection was begun by Thomas Tenison, Archbishop of Canterbury from 1695 to his death in 1715. The Reverend Philip Hale was the keeper of the volume in Archbishop Tenison’s library in the parish of St. Martin-in-the-Fields in the 1850’s and who was responsible for the rearrangement and rebinding of the fragments in the album in which they came to Missouri.
