Description
The Research Files on the Fragmenta Manuscripta Collection consist of research material describing fragments of manuscripts that make up the collection, dating from the eighth through the seventeenth centuries. Most of them are from England, but there are some from other countries as well. Also included are informational notecards, microfilm of John Bagford’s fragment collection relating to the Fragmenta Manuscripta Collection, and sleeved photographs of all 217 fragments from the collection. This material was used by researchers Dr. Karen Gould and Professor Linda Ehrsam Voigts to create a catalogue for this collection.

Series Descriptions:
Series One – Research Material. This is material used to prepare a catalogue for the Fragmenta Manuscripta Collection. Included is correspondence between Dr.Karen Gould, Dr. Linda Ehrsam Voigts, and other various staff and faculty members from religious and educational institutions, both in the United States, and other countries. The bulk of this series consist of detailed descriptions of the manuscript fragments, which are numbered. There are also copies of various publications dealing with medieval manuscripts and illumination of them, as well as handwritten notes and photocopies of the fragments. Finally, there is a copy of an NEH Prospectus. Please note that years listed at the end of FF description refer to the year or approximate year the research was undertaken. Most of the research was conducted in the 1970s and 1980s, the years not necessarily being in chronological order on the folders. Please note also that some information in the file folder descriptions was taken from the descriptive sheet forms.Series Two-Bagford Fragment Collection on Microfilm. This is a collection of manuscript fragments once owned by John Bagford, an English antiquarian, writer, bibliographer, and bookseller in the 1700s.
Series Three-Photographs. This series consists of photographs taken of all 217 manuscript fragments from the Fragmenta Manuscripta Collection.
