Daylight Saving Time Ends This Weekend
Daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. on Sunday, November 4. That means you should move your clocks backward one hour Saturday night before going to bed. It is also recommended that you use this as a reminder to change all batteries in fire alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.

The University of Missouri Libraries have an immediate opening for a Technical Services Librarian to oversee the cataloging work of all staff, either directly or indirectly, in the creation and maintenance of high quality bibliographic catalog records for all library resources.
Specific duties include:
- Provide access to library materials through descriptive metadata, subject analysis and classification along with retrospective conversion, holdings work, and related authority work according to established standards and procedures.
- Oversee and provide leadership to all staff in the Cataloging unit maintaining the integrity of the online catalog.
- Develop procedures, set priorities, assign work activities, and monitor workflow of the unit.
- Hire, supervise, and evaluate staff. Ensure that personnel policies of the Libraries, MU, and UM are correctly and consistently carried out.
- Ensure that staff have access to ongoing training and staff development opportunities.
- Oversee all work related to the transfer and/or withdrawal of physical materials according to established procedures.
- Participate in planning, including developing unit, departmental, and project goals, priorities, and procedures in the Acquisitions, Collections, and Technical Services (ACTS) division.
- Provide statistical and activities reports as required by Administration for third parties such as ACRL, ALA, and ARL.
- Other duties as assigned.
This position will be hired at the appropriate rank of Librarian I or Librarian II, according to the qualifications of the final candidate. Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree from an ALA accredited program in Library/Information Science, or its equivalent.
- Skills in oral and written communication, project management, and interpersonal relations.
- Ability to work collegially and effectively with staff at all levels.
- Self-motivation, willingness and ability to learn and accurately perform complex tasks following established rules, standards, and procedures.
- Strong analytical, conceptual, and problem solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and provide leadership for staff at all levels, including the ability to engage staff in a continual process of change and improvement.
- Superior oral and written communication skills.
- Advanced knowledge of national cataloging standards, the principal tools and systems used to create bibliographic records, and current trends in the application of technology to the cataloging process.
- Strong service orientation and an awareness of end-user needs as they affect cataloging policies and procedures.
- Flexibility, creativity, and the potential to be successful and effective in a complex, rapidly changing organization.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years professional experience in bibliographic control in an academic or research library.
- Experience in originally cataloging various formats of physical materials.
- NACO trained and experienced in authority work.
Salary: Salary will be commensurate with rank.

Transgender Empowerment & Awareness Week
Nov. 5th-Nov. 9th, LGTBQ Resource Center and the MU Women’s Center
Across the country, Transgender Awareness Week is meant to help raise the visibility of transgender and gender non-conforming people. At Mizzou, we celebrate Transgender Empowerment & Awareness Week to empower transgender individuals on campus while still raising awareness for the issues these communities face.
John Fifeild plans on attending the events on Monday, Thursday and Friday Evening. Mara Inge will be there for the presentation on Friday. Email them if you are interested in joining.
Communicating Across Differences: Reflective Deliberation and Dialogue
Monday, Nov. 5th 12-1pm, Room 1209A Student Center
This series is designed to enhance the capacity of faculty, staff and students to engage in conversations about challenging, emotionally laden topics (i.e., race, discrimination, policy, politics, etc.). The skills learned in this series can be applied in the workplace, classroom, and interpersonal and community contexts. Participants are encouraged to bring real-life situations to the sessions to serve as practice and learning opportunities.

Research Guides: Dear Black Girl: Research and Writing about The Magic.
Wednesday, Nov. 7th 12-1pm, 305 Hill Hall
The focus of this specific Research Guide is to bring together faculty of color to discuss their research on Black girls and Community Cultural Wealth. The hour-long event will include summarizing major findings from faculty members’ articles, modeling for graduate students how to talk about research across disciplines, and discussing methods for finding collaborators at conferences, on campuses, and across fields.

No MULSA Halloween Party This Year
MULSA will not be sponsoring a Halloween Party this year due to cost, lack of interest, and the need to focus on upcoming Thanksgiving Party in just a few weeks. We would like to encourage library departments and units to celebrate Halloween their style this year.
