Hellos

Hello to Alex Boeckman! Alex is the Senior Library Information Specialist at Zalk Library. She’s your point person for circulation, InterLibrary Loan, and course reserves. Alex is a graduate of UMSL and has worked in the St. Charles City-County Library District and the Jefferson Middle School media center. Welcome, Alex!

Hello and Welcome Back to Rae Thudium! Rae is serving as the interim Head of Zalk Library while there is a national search for my replacement. Rae has her Master’s of Library & Information Science from Mizzou. As many of you know, Rae served as the interim Executive Assistant for Dean Henry during COVID. Her library experience includes stints at Ellis Library, the University Archives, and Daniel Boone Regional Library. Rae is your point person for reference, instruction, and scholarly communication issues.

Please help me welcome Alex and Rae to their new roles!

You can get in touch with Team Zalk 2.0 via vetlib@missouri.edu

And a Goodbye from Kate

I will be leaving Mizzou at the end of July and relocating to New York City. It’s been the joy of my career to be your librarian for the last sixteen years. And, as the head of the library for the past nine, it’s been an honor to be a part of CVM’s mission to advance human and animal health. Thank you is not enough, but thank you.

M – I – Z – N – Y – C!

  • Covered Drinks & Snacks Allowed. Keep it clean! No meals or messy food. We reserve the right to ask you to eat items down in the Dogwood Cafe.
  • Quiet Study 24/7. Respect your classmate’s need for a quiet area. Take and make calls outside the library.
  • Service Animals Only. No pets.
  • Be Kind to One Another! As we transition a new world of optional face coverings and no distancing rules, be kind to one another. It’s an adjustment for all of us!

  • Set your Google Scholar settings to show the FindIt@MU link for easy off-campus access to journal articles
  • Use VPN
  • More information on Off-campus Access to Library Resources
  • Note: many libraries around the country still have limited access to their collections and/or have changed their lending policies. You may experience delays with requests from other libraries.

Not sure where to start? Here are a few books that can help you be more than “not racist.”

Mizzou students, staff, and faculty can access these ebooks using the links. If you have a Daniel Boone Regional Library library card, you can check out the titles featured in the Daniel Boone Regional Libraries’ list of antiracist recommendations.

We have many more books available in print, and starting in July, you can place a copy on hold to pick up using our curbside service.

The New PubMed Is Here!

New PubMed becomes the default in mid-May.

Highlights of New PubMed include:

  • Ability to cite references quickly in your preferred citation style format (AMA, APA, NLM, or MLA)
  • Best Match sorting algorithm that brings the most relevant results to the top of your search results
    • You can change the Sort Order in the Display Options
  • Better searching capabilities on your mobile device with a consistent look throughout all devices
  • Better at finding synonyms and accounting for British/American spelling differences

New PubMed still includes the features you rely on for searching, as well as saving and sharing your results:

  • Save your search results to a file, email your results to yourself or a colleague, or send your results to a clipboard, collection, or your NCBI My Bibliography
  • Advanced search page to search for terms in a specific field, see the search details, review your search history and combine searches to create complex search strings
  • Save your search and create an email alert. Any saved searches and settings you previously created should be transferred automatically.

The National Library of Medicine has created a page with links to PubMed tutorials and handouts.

Not quite ready to make the switch? Legacy PubMed is still available…but it will be retired soon.
