Fall 2019 Group Study Room Reservations

We are excited to share that Ellis Library group study rooms will be renovated during Fall 2019. Rooms will receive some combination of new carpeting, paint, furnishings, white boards and technology. The Libraries are working closely with campus facilities to ensure the work is completed with the least amount of disruption possible. However, we may at times need to cancel a reservation or move groups to a new space. Please be aware when making a reservation that we will contact you as soon as we are aware of any possible disruption. We look forward to offering students improved group study spaces.

Thank you to the Student Technology Fee and the Student Fee Capital Improvement Fund for funding the renovations.

Each month we provide an overview of University of Missouri authored articles in medicine and related fields as well as a featured article from a School of Medicine author with the highest journal impact factor.

This month’s featured article:

“AAV9 Edits Muscle Stem Cells in Normal and Dystrophic Adult Mice” was co-authored by Dr. Dongsheng Duan, Dr. Chady Hakim, Dr. Nalinda Wasala, Dr. Yongping Yue, and Dr. Xiufang Pan of the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology. The article was published in Molecular Therapy (impact factor of 8.402 in 2018).

New Study Space at the Health Sciences Library

Last summer, we started the process of removing the old information desk to create a new student space. Throughout the year, we’ve asked for student input from what they’d like to see in the space to voting on specific furniture types.

We are happy to announce that the new comfy seating area is finally up and running! A good portion of the new furniture was delivered and we are finalizing the setup of the new lounge area, so don’t be surprised if you see different iterations of the space in the coming weeks.

Thank you for your comments, ideas, and votes throughout the year. We hope you enjoy your new space!

The furniture was funded by the Enhance Mizzou Student Fee

Fall 2019 Textbooks at the Health Sciences Library

Fall 2019 required and recommended textbooks for classes in the School of Nursing, School of Health Professions and the Department of Health Management and Informatics are now available at the library. Each course has its own corresponding tab.

Paper copies are available on Health Sciences Library Reserve for a 24 hour checkout time. Any duplicate copies of textbooks are available and subject to regular check out times.

Please be aware of the user limits on electronic textbooks. They are different depending on textbook and platform. We make note of any user limits.

Unfortunately, we don’t have all the books required for every class. If we don’t have your textbook, there are several avenues you can use to find a copy, which are all clearly labeled on each class page.

West Stacks Closure: How to Request Materials

The west stacks of Ellis Library are closed due to work on the foundation of the building. In order to access materials located in the west stacks, you will need to make a request through the MERLIN library catalog. For detailed information about this process, visit http://library.missouri.edu/inthelibrary/borrowing/requestretrieval/.

If you have additional questions, you may get help in person at the Research Help desk or the Check Out desk. Online help is available at Ask the Librarians!

The stacks will open again during the winter semester.

Ellis Library Stacks Refresh Project

Ellis Library is beginning a project to make it easier for our users to find the most up-to-date library materials on our shelves. To make space for new materials, librarians will be moving older and infrequently used bound journals to the University Libraries Depository, where they will be stored in optimal conditions for long-term preservation. University students, faculty and staff can request entire journal volumes or scanned copies of individual articles through the MERLIN catalog with the click of a button. As we work through the process of refreshing our stacks, your subject librarian may request feedback from faculty on moving particular titles. If you would like to be notified about titles under consideration or have questions about titles proposed for transfer, please contact your subject librarian or Jeannette Pierce, Associate University Librarian for Research, Access, and Instructional Services.

Heads up! PubMed Changes Coming in 2020

PubMed will be getting a new look in 2020. You should see major improvements to how PubMed looks and performs, both on your desktop and mobile devices.

You can preview the new interface at PubMed Labs.

The current timeline is for PubMed to be switched to the new version in 2020. Old and new PubMed will run concurrently for a few months, and then old PubMed will be retired at the end of the year.

Of course, these dates could change and we will keep you updated.
