Annual Departmental Swap Meet
On Wednesday, March 20th from 9 a.m. -11 a.m., we invite all departments to come look over all used supplies and equipment in our surplus area that you could use in your department. From 12 p.m. -1 p.m., some items departments cannot use will be available for all staff to take home for personal use. Personal items must be taken out of the surplus room by 2 p.m. and removed from the library by 5:00 p.m., unless other arrangements are made with security. The surplus room is located on the ground floor at the bottom of the center stairwell. If you have any questions please contact Pat Jones in security.
New Circulation/Reserves Staff Hired!
Good news! We have filled the two, new part-time positions in Circulation/Reserves! As I mentioned in an earlier Snippets, we took the full-time position vacated by Carri Huff and turned it into two part-time positions. We hope that the difficulties of working the late night and weekend shifts may be better absorbed by two part-time people. Each person will work 24 hours per week. Their specific hours will be determined after they begin. Our new staff members will be:
Greg Allendorf – who is a current Ph.D. student in Poetry at Mizzou. He has been a TA in the English Department and has taught a number of courses over the years. His start day will be Tuesday, 12 March.
Alisa Pappas will start work the following week on Thursday, 21 March. Alisa is currently a graduate student in the School of Information Science & Learning Technologies (SISLT). She has a son in elementary school and is currently working part-time at Daniel Boone Regional Library. She wants to focus on academic libraries, so she was excited to turn in her resignation there to begin working here.
Many thanks again, to Eric, for stepping up and working the late shifts during Carri’s absence. Thanks to Peter and Karen, as well, for working late on Fridays.

Let’s examine the fight that RBG with her husband and her passion as portrayed in the film takes on for eliminating gender discrimination. This movie enkindles what it looked like to be a woman challenging the law. How does RBG’s constant drive and willingness to speak of freedom inspired you.

Lose Hate Not Weight: An Intersectional Feminist Approach to Diet Culture

Virgie Tovar is an author, activist, and one of the nation’s leading experts and lecturers on fat discrimination and body image. She is a contributor for Forbes and pens a weekly column called Take the Cake on Ravishly.com. Tovar edited the anthology Hot & Heavy: Fierce Fat Girls on Life, Love and Fashion (Seal Press, November 2012) and The Feminist Press published her manifesto, You Have the Right to Remain Fat (August 2018). Her new book, FLAWLESS: Radical Body Positivity for Girls of Color, comes out in March 2020 from New Harbinger.
The Department of Textile and Apparel Management Presents – Design for Disability: Adaptive Clothing Innovations Symposium – Free and open to the public!

oin us for a discussion about designing adaptive apparel for people living with disabilities as we tackle this topic from a user-centered perspective and address innovative materials and design approaches for the burgeoning market. Panelists from Cotton, Inc., NBZ Apparel and the Great Plains ADA Center at the University of Missouri will discuss the adaptive clothing barriers facing people living with a disability and future opportunities for apparel innovations. The symposium will be held on Tuesday, March 19 from 2:30-4:00 pm in Wrench Auditorium (Memorial Union South). Free and open to the public. 12th Annual Women’s Health & Wellness Fair

Africa Presents Kris Holloway an African Book Series

The Africa Hub is continuing its African Books series.
We are hosting Kris Holloway Thursday, March 21, 2019, during Women History Month. Holloway is the author of the critically acclaimed Monique and the Mango Rains: Two Years with a Midwife in Mali. She is co-author of Shores Beyond Shores: from Holocaust to Hope (2018).
While on campus, she will deliver a lecture to talk about her book and serving in the Peace Corps, she will do a book signing/reading and she will visit classes as well as talk to students about service, studying abroad, and maternal health.
This event is made possible by the financial support of the International Center, CAFNR International Programs, and The office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies and eLearning.
Barker to Participate in ACRL Panel
Anne Barker will be part of a panel discussion on April 11 at the ACRL Conference in Cleveland, OH. The panel is titled “Connect the Campus Dots: Using Institutional Systems to Support Students When They Need It the Most.”
Daylight Saving Time Returns This Weekend
Daylight saving time returns at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 10. That means you should move your clocks forward one hour Saturday night before going to bed. It is also recommended that you use this as a reminder to change all batteries in fire alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
Show Me Mizzou Day: Volunteers Needed and Website Is Live
This spring, the University of Missouri will welcome all visitors to a family friendly open house — Show Me Mizzou Day on Saturday, April 13. Everyone’s invited to this day of discovery and fun to explore our state’s flagship university and learn the meaning of Tiger pride.
The campus will be open, rain or shine, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering more than 100 events for people of all ages. Families will be able to attend presentations, tour campus and see research in action. In the afternoon, they will be able to experience the excitement of Mizzou Athletics by attending the Mizzou Football spring game and a Mizzou Baseball game.

Event Description: Technology has changed the way we interact with ancient texts. Stop by Ellis Library to participate in interactive exhibits showcasing what a 21st century library has to offer. View rare books from the special collections vault and test out high-tech equipment from the digital media lab. Explore Ellis Library’s beautiful 100+ year old building. Enjoy refreshments and crafting tables for kids.
