Each month we provide an overview of University of Missouri School of Medicine faculty-authored articles in medicine and related fields as well as a featured article with the highest journal impact factor.

This month’s featured article, “Associations between Prenatal Urinary Biomarkers of Phthalate Exposure and Preterm Birth: A Pooled Study of 16 US Cohorts” was co-authored by Dr. Erma Drobnis of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Women’s Health . The article was published in JAMA Pediatrics (impact factor of 26.821 in 2021).

Fall 2022 Textbooks Available at the Health Sciences Library

Fall 2022 HSL Textbooks Available

Fall 2022 required and recommended textbooks for classes in the School of Nursing, School of Health Professions and the Department of Health Management and Informatics are now available at the library. Each course has its own corresponding tab.

Paper copies are available on Health Sciences Library Reserve for a 24 hour checkout time. Any duplicate copies of textbooks are available and subject to regular check out times.

Be aware of the user limits on electronic textbooks. They are different depending on textbook and platform. We make note of any user limits.

Unfortunately, we don’t have all the books required for every class. If we don’t have your textbook, there are several avenues you can use to find a copy, which are all clearly labeled on each class page.

Popular Reading Collection Now Available in Ellis Library

Ellis Library isn’t just for study and work anymore. Because the Mizzou community needs leisure reading too, the MU Libraries in partnership with the Daniel Boone Regional Library (DBRL) are proud to announce the debut of a Popular Reading Collection in the Lounge, which is located on the first floor of Ellis Library in the Information Commons.

The Popular Reading Collection consists of books, magazines, comic books and some graphic novels that have been donated from DBRL. Library users may read these materials in the library or take them home. When they are finished, materials should be returned to Ellis Library, the Columbia Public Library, or dropped in any MU Libraries or DBRL bookdrop. The collection will be restocked once a month.

“We have heard from students over the years that they would like access to popular reading materials in Ellis Library. We are so grateful to the Daniel Boone Regional Library for collaborating on this project to make this material available to our users,” said Deb Ward.

The items in this collection are not part of the regular MU Libraries or DBRL circulating collection. You will not be able to search these books in either library’s catalog, and you do not need to check them out.

The University of Missouri Libraries are pleased to announce our new catalog interface, integrated with Discover @ MU, will go live on June 23, 2022. The new system will allow patrons to search books, journals, online resources and more in one platform. All items already checked out to patrons will migrate to the new system.

June is Pride Month and to help celebrate this month of love and acceptance, here are some books available at Mizzou Libraries that tell stories of triumphs and struggles of the LGBTQ community.

Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan 

This is the story of Paul, a sophomore at a high school like no other: The cheerleaders ride Harleys, the homecoming queen used to be a guy named Daryl (she now prefers Infinite Darlene and is also the star quarterback), and the gay-straight alliance was formed to help the straight kids learn how to dance. The Book of Salt by Monique Truong

Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic by Alison Bechdel

Alison Bechdel’s groundbreaking, bestselling graphic memoir that charts her fraught relationship with her late father. Distant and exacting, Bruce Bechdel was an English teacher and director of the town funeral home, which Alison and her family referred to as the “Fun Home.” It was not until college that Alison, who had recently come out as a lesbian, discovered that her father was also gay. A few weeks after this revelation, he was dead, leaving a legacy of mystery for his daughter to resolve. In her hands, personal history becomes a work of amazing subtlety and power, written with controlled force and enlivened with humor, rich literary allusion, and heartbreaking detail. More recently, this memoir was turned into a Tony award winning musical and you can check out the book and lyrics as well.
