Paying for Health Expenses: Prescription for Healthy Finances

MU Staff Development Week Presentation
Tuesday, May 21, 9:00-10:30am
Registration is now open for Zoom presentation (open to all MU faculty and staff)

Whenever we visit the doctor or go to the hospital, we are asked to acknowledge that we are financially responsible to pay for medical services received. Rarely, however, are we told ahead of time how much we will be charged. Contractual obligation to pay for unexpected medical costs has led to significant financial hardship for many households. Recent legislation and agency action attempt to address the problems of unaffordable healthcare costs and surprising medical bills. We now have pricing transparency tools and savings vehicles to help us plan and strategize, but many who could benefit are not yet using them. What are patient rights in this evolving legal and financial landscape, and how can patients best plan and pay for health care costs? In this presentation, we will cover what you need to know to keep both you and your financial accounts healthy.
