WARNING: Fake Library Email Messages

An Important Reminder About Phishing Scams

The University of Missouri Libraries will never send you an email asking you to click on a link to activate your library account. Your library account is activated automatically based on your status with either the Registrar (as a student) or in myHR (as an employee).

Unfortunately, phishing scams sometimes target university email accounts with false claims and links to gather users’ account information.  If you receive such a message about your library account, DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINK.  If you have questions about your library account, you can contact a librarian at http://libraryanswers.missouri.edu

The Division of IT provides additional information on keeping your account safe from such attacks at MakeITSafe: https://www.umsystem.edu/makeitsafe/

Get Involved with MULSA

As the MU Libraries Staff Association’s president, it’s time to remind you of what we do.  MULSA hosts parties throughout the year and provides snacks for the all-staff meetings.  We coordinate supplies, schedule and cleaning of the staff room and acknowledge personal events of the staff.  We are not an official library committee but all staff (professional and para-professional) are considered members.  MULSA is here to make the library a caring community and a nice place to be.

Up-coming events include:  the Celebration of Service (May 17th), the MULSA all-members annual meeting (May 23rd) and our annual picnic (June 15th).  About the annual meeting; we will have refreshments, report on the past years happenings and elect new officers.

Since I am currently President, Vice President/President Elect and Courtesy Chair, we really need new officers!  Please consider joining the executive board.  Talk to current officers (about the duties): Timothy Perry (Secretary), Jack Batterson (Treasurer), chairs Ruthe Morse (Courtesy), Ashley Granger (Community Service), Colleen Smith (Staff Room), Michelle Baggett and Erin Powell (Muse, our blog), Karen Eubanks and Tammy Green (Social) and Rachel Brekhus and Anne Barker (Book Sale).  Think about it and talk to your supervisor (some time is required).

P.S. As Courtesy Chair, please let me know if there is a reason to send a card or flowers.

Thanks, Ruthe

Notes from the University Librarian 3/16/18

Hello everyone,

This morning I am delighted to announce that after a search, Noel Kopriva has been appointed the Engineering Librarian and Head of the Engineering Library and Technology Commons.  She had been filling the role on an interim basis, and I know you all join me in wishing her well in her new position.  Discussions are ongoing about how to deal with her liaison and other duties from her past position.

In other non-news, budget discussions continue all over campus.  The University and the state legislators have not come to agreement on state appropriations for us, and even if they did, we have to wait until the Board of Curators meets on April 12-13 in Rolla to set tuition rates for next year.  I know the state of uncertainty is hard for everyone, and will share any news we get as soon as possible.

Because of the situation with us being unable to fill some positions due to the budget, many of you have taken on more and more work in recent years.  Today is probably a good time for me to remind everyone to talk to your supervisor if the amount of work you have is becoming difficult to manage.  Take time to ask for help setting priorities if you need it, and if you’re a supervisor, be clear in setting priorities for your staff and student workers as much as you can.  Teamwork is the only way we’re going to get through this situation, and we need to be patient and clear with each other in all our interactions.

St. Patrick’s Day is March 17, and I hope you all have a safe and happy weekend.  I’ll definitely be wearing green but no longer drink green beer….

Ann
