Volunteers for Reverse Trick or Treating

The Child Life specialists at Children’s Hospital are planning this year’s Halloween festivities for their young patients, and you’re invited to join in the fun from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31.

Reverse trick-or-treating allows staff dressed in costume to deliver treats and small treasures to children in their hospital rooms. This events allow all children and teens to participate in Halloween festivities.

For the past two years, a small group from the University Libraries have participated. We make goodie bags and hand them out. Putting together the goodie bags takes an hour or so. Handing out the goodie bags also takes about an hour. If you do not want to go to the hospital to physically hand them out, you can always help with the goodie bags.

If you are interested in participating, please email Taira Meadowcroft at meadowcroftt@health.missouri.edu by Friday, October 12th.

Voter Registration Guide

2018 Register to Vote Library Guide

Top things to know are:

  • Voter registration deadline in Missouri is Wednesday October 10.
  • First-time Missouri voters must vote in person on November 6, unless they presented acceptable photo ID to the County Clerk at the time they registered. Only those who have voted in Missouri before, or who have presented that ID (not just included their driver’s license number on their registration form), will be sent an absentee ballot when they request one, and they must request it by October 31.
  • If a student wants to register in a district outside Boone County (either in Missouri or in another state), they must be aware that the process for both registration and absentee voting differ, and may be unexpectedly complicated (for instance, to vote absentee when registered in another Missouri county, you have to get that absentee ballot notarized). Our guide has links to other counties’ requirements.

If you have questions that are not answered in the guide, visit the Boone County Clerk’s Office.

University Libraries and Disability Center Host Screening of Unrest

For the third year in a row, the University Libraries have partnered with the Disability Center to host a movie screening during Celebrate Ability Week, (October 1-5) – the week-long series of events which celebrates disability awareness and culture at Mizzou. The Libraries purchased the film and performing rights for Unrest — a Sundance award-winning documentary depicting 28-year-old Jennifer Brea, a Harvard Ph.D. student just months away from getting married, who develops a mysterious fever that leaves her bedridden. Brea begins to chronicle her illness with a camera and creates this “eloquent personal documentary.”  The film will be screened on Wednesday, October 3rd, from 8:00 – 10:30pm in the MU Student Center at The Shack eating area.  Watch the Unrest trailer or check out the DVD after next week.
