The University of Missouri Libraries have an immediate opening for a Technical Services Librarian to oversee the cataloging work of all staff, either directly or indirectly, in the creation and maintenance of high quality bibliographic catalog records for all library resources.

Specific duties include:

  1. Provide access to library materials through descriptive metadata, subject analysis and classification along with retrospective conversion, holdings work, and related authority work according to established standards and procedures.
  2. Oversee and provide leadership to all staff in the Cataloging unit maintaining the integrity of the online catalog.
    • Develop procedures, set priorities, assign work activities, and monitor workflow of the unit.
    • Hire, supervise, and evaluate staff. Ensure that personnel policies of the Libraries, MU, and UM are correctly and consistently carried out.
    • Ensure that staff have access to ongoing training and staff development opportunities.
  3. Oversee all work related to the transfer and/or withdrawal of physical materials according to established procedures.
  4. Participate in planning, including developing unit, departmental, and project goals, priorities, and procedures in the Acquisitions, Collections, and Technical Services (ACTS) division.
  5. Provide statistical and activities reports as required by Administration for third parties such as ACRL, ALA, and ARL.
  6. Other duties as assigned.

This position will be hired at the appropriate rank of Librarian I or Librarian II, according to the qualifications of the final candidate.  For information regarding title and rank, please review the MU Libraries’ Librarian and Archivist Governance Document found at http://library.missouri.edu/staff/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/2014/02/Governance-Document_rev2014.pdf.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an ALA accredited program in Library/Information Science, or its equivalent.
  • Skills in oral and written communication, project management, and interpersonal relations.
  • Ability to work collegially and effectively with staff at all levels.
  • Self-motivation, willingness and ability to learn and accurately perform complex tasks following established rules, standards, and procedures.
  • Strong analytical, conceptual, and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and provide leadership for staff at all levels, including the ability to engage staff in a continual process of change and improvement.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of national cataloging standards, the principal tools and systems used to create bibliographic records, and current trends in the application of technology to the cataloging process.
  • Strong service orientation and an awareness of end-user needs as they affect cataloging policies and procedures.
  • Flexibility, creativity, and the potential to be successful and effective in a complex, rapidly changing organization.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years professional experience in bibliographic control in an academic or research library.
  • Experience in originally cataloging various formats of physical materials.
  • NACO trained and experienced in authority work.

Salary: Salary will be commensurate with rank.

The University Libraries have an immediate opening for a Senior Human Resources Specialist.

The senior human resources specialist for the University of Missouri Libraries performs human resource activities related to recruiting, benefits, compensation, training, records, staff budgeting and payroll. Oversees routine HR practices and acts as liaison to campus HR offices. Provides direct supervision for 1.0 FTE and indirect support for Admin student worker team to ensure efficient workflows, productivity, and compliance. Understands key library initiatives and keeps library policies & procedures in compliance with campus policies & procedures. Solves routine problems and explains complex information in a straightforward manner to library supervisors and employees. Analyzes and submits recommendations to complicated issues using technical experience, judgment and precedents. Identifies or develops programs to sustain a healthy, productive work culture and to support the Library’s diversity mission/goals. Administers myPerformance. Coordinates myVita data entry and library committee assignments.

Salary:  

  • Salary Range: $47,476 – $84,505 annually
  • Grade: GGS-010
  • University Title: Senior Human Resources Specialist

Shift:  40 hours/week between 8-5, Monday-Friday.

Minimum Qualifications:  A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in Professional in Human Resources (PHR), Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP), Society for Human Resource Management Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-CP), or combination of education and work experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
  • Knowledge of and relevant experience with human resources policies, regulations, and practices.
  • Experience with software applications associated with human resources management such as spreadsheets, database management, and tools used for data analysis.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, assessment and planning skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving and supporting diversity in the workforce.
  • Commitment to internal and external customer-focused service.
  • Commitment to professional growth and development of library staff.
