Description
The Duelist was a trading card gaming magazine published from 1993-1999 by the Wizards of the Coast, Inc. It was published at differing intervals as it gained popularity: one-time, quarterly, bi-monthly, monthly. At the start of publication, The Duelist focused on the game Magic: the Gathering but towards the end of publication had pivoted to other upcoming card games such as Pokémon. The Duelist allowed a featured artist to create unique art based on Magic: the Gathering cards for both the cover and throughout the issue. The magazine included articles on game strategy, game design, Magic: the Gathering fiction, rules questions, tournament coverage, and even a Magic themed comic strip. The magazine was discontinued when the publishing company, Wizards of the Coast, Inc. was bought by Hasbro and Hasbro decided to pivot to internet content.
