Cindy Cotner and Anne Barker were asked to present at the upcoming Annual Composition Department’s Celebration of Teaching and Writing on Sat., April 29th

“Bringing the Library into the Classroom: Rethinking Library Resources,” 11:10am – 12noon, in Tate Hall 215
Deanna Benjamin, Cindy Cotner, Anne Barker and Bailey Boyd, Virginia Muller (moderator)

Many of us have taken our classes to the library for the traditional “one-shot” instructional session, hoping that in that one session our students will absorb and remember how to use complex and confusing systems to do research. While a good start, we know that learning to use library resources takes trial and error, practice, and the support of a great librarian. This panel will explore some of the ways the library staff is partnering with English 1000 teachers to fill in the gaps left behind by the fifty-minute library visit, including how they work together over multiple class meetings to introduce and to reinforce the connections between good research and good writing. Join us for some ideas about how we can rethink the way we teach research.
