MU Libraries Participate in MU Remembers

Each year the members of the Mizzou family commemorate the lives of students who have passed away during the past year at an event called MU Remembers. That event occured today, April 3 at 2 pm. Jim Cogswell always attends this event as a representative of the MU Libraries.

To serve as a memorial and tribute to the contribution of each student, the Libraries place a book in the collection that is related to the student's major or interests. A personalized bookplate is placed in each book and the book record in the computer catalog also states that the book has been placed in the collection as a memorial to the student. Letters with the title and cover of the book are sent to the parents. We have received many thank you notes from parents and some parents come to the library to look at the books.

In the future, there are plans to create an MU Remembers LibGuide with a complete listing of all the MU Remembers books.

Worker Wednesday and Social Media

The Library Social Media Team is working on new ways to promote the MU Libraries and one of the ways we are doing this is through highlighting a staff or student worker each Wednesday. We are hoping that through promoting our employees, people outside the library will realize how many people it really takes to have a successful library. It might also help people realize what services are available through the different job titles that people have. Right now we are asking people to volunteer either themselves or a student to be part of Worker Wednesday by sending Nancy Messina messinan@missouri.edu an email (after May 1st please send emails to Kimberly Moeller MoellerKN@missouri.edu) talking about your interest and what you would like your post to look like. Twitter posts are about 120 characters long after adding a picture, but you can say more about yourself on Facebook. If you would like to see an example check out our Twitter (https://twitter.com/MULibraries)  and Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/MizzouLibraries) accounts. Be sure to either follow us or like us to help us with promotion and marketing.

If you have anything that you think the Library Social Media Team should be highlight please pass those along as well. We need everyone’s help in telling our story to MU students, staff and faculty, especially now as we begin our campaign for the Student Library Fee.
