A great way to increase the readership of your research is to ensure it is easily accessible and affordable. You can publish research open access or if you’ve retained your rights, you can deposit your work into MOspace. How To Make Your Work Open:
Retain Your Rights: No matter where you publish, the single most important thing you can do to remain in control of your impact is Retain Your Rights. It’s your copyright – don’t just sign it away! Contracts are often negotiable. And read those agreements: you may have more rights to share your research than you realize.
Know Your Options: Choose the right venue for your research and know your open access options.
Share Your Work: Deposit your research in MOspace, MU’s Digital Institutional Repository. Submitting your work to MOspace is easy. Just log in with your SSO and complete the Creative Commons license.

Video abstracts are a great way to increase your research impact. A video abstract allows you to explain research in your own words, encourage people to engage in your research, and increase your research visibility. Finally, video abstracts allow you to reach a wider demographic – allowing you to reach your community in a wider scale.
Tips for creating a video abstract:
- Keep it short, ideally 2-3 minutes.
- Clearly define the problem, your research, and the broader impact.
- Be accessible – use clear language and be succinct. Video abstracts are a great way to engage a larger audience.
- Include images – pictures, graphs, charts or tables.
- End with a call to action – encourage people to read your article!

Trending articles is a marker of increased interest in a PubMed abstract. Trending articles are those with a significant increase in daily PubMed views in the past two days as compared to the previous baseline period, which is approximately a week.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) Pride Month is currently celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots.
With Pride Month, we wanted to highlight a few of our guides dedicated to LGBTQ resources. These guides are updated throughout the year.
Our guide, LGBTQ Resources, provides useful resources for research on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer issues, and for members, family, and friends of the LGBTQ community. Whether you are a student looking for help with your papers and projects or you are looking for reading recommendations, this guide is a good resource.

Get your blood flowing to get your brain working at the new bike desks at the Health Sciences Library.
Over the summer, the library installed two bike desks to help promote healthy studying habits. Due to the positive reception for our standing desks, the library chose bike desks as the next step in continuing to providing a healthy and stimulating environment.
“The bikes are a great way to unwind while still studying,” says accelerated nursing program student Natalie Cundiff. “I’m able to get moving if I don’t have time for the gym that day.”
Many studies have shown that the use of bike desks results in increased energy and motivation as well as students feeling more successful in studying. While bike desks aren’t a replacement for exercise, they are a simple way to be active.
Alli Burke, accelerated nursing program student, also enjoys the new additions to the library. “It’s a way to stay active and get my blood flowing so I’m not constantly sitting for long hours at a time.”
The bike desks are currently located in the copy room and are first come, first serve.
