National Novel Writing Month has eventually begun and if you need help getting that novel started (or finished) check out NaNoWriMo. This great nonprofit organization has a ton of resources and a community to help you along your novel writing journey. They have their Novel Writing Month challenge going on right now with the end goal of having written 50,000 words for your novel. You can also engage in their community of writers who can help you edit your novel as you go or just cheer you on. So if you are looking to write something but don’t know where to begin, look no further than NaNoWriMo.org.
Join Christina E. Burke, Curator of Native American Art, as she gives a lecture on Native American art. She will delve into the geometric designs and craftsmanship of the Dakota and Lakota artists, and draw cultural and aesthetic connections between 19th century art and the innovative Abstract paintings of Oscar Howe. The Museum of Art and Archaeology’s Art of the Book Club is reading “In the Land of Temple Caves” by Frederick Turner during November. They will have three events related to the reading which they hope will enhance the understanding of the book’s themes and content. The first event will be on November 3rd at 2pm and will be a discussion which includes talking about Werner Herzog’s documentary “Caves of Forgotten Dreams.” All events will be held over Zoom and you will need to register prior to the Zoom meeting. Starlight Theatre has partnered with the Nelson-Atkins Museum to bring you Impressionists as you have never seen before. With giant projections of masterpieces from Monet, Degas, and many others, you will get an up close look at beautiful brushstrokes that created these piece.
