It is that time of year again. That’s right, National Poetry month is almost here and NaPoWriMo.net is putting on their annual Poetry writing challenge. Starting on April 1st, NaPoWriMo.net will challenge you to right one poem every day for the month. It is an open challenge for published poets, beginners, or just anyone who is interested in poetry or challenges. You will be able to post your poems to the site if you would like but there is no pressure to. NaPoWriMo.net will provide you with support and prompts to help you along your journey.

Tea and Haiku

If you are looking for an evening of relaxing creativity, look no further than Daniel Boone Public Library’s Tea and Haiku night. Christine Boyle will guide you through an hour of Haiku writing with a nice cup of tea. No need to register for this one, just come in and have fun. It will be held on April 11th from 7-8pm. Party With the Stars

Venus and Mars will both be visible in the early April night sky and the Daniel Boone Public Library is putting on an event to take full advantage. Join them on April 7th from 7:30-9:30pm for an evening under the stars. You will start inside with a slide show talking about the planets you are about to view, followed by a telescopic viewing of the night’s sky. If you are interested, click the link to register.

Bullet Journaling at DBRL

Life is tough at times. It can be overwhelming, stressful, and chaotic. It can be hard to keep track of everything and things can start to be missed. Well, the Daniel Boone Regional Library is here to help. On March 23rd, they are holding a Bullet journaling event from 6:30pm-8pm. They will discuss the process of bullet journaling and give you tips on how to get started. They will also supply you with a notebook and a few supplies to get start. St. Louis Museum Garage Sale

What’s the best part about going to museum? Learning about the past? Maybe seeing artifacts from bygone eras? Both wrong. The best part is getting little souvenirs from the gift shop. And does the St. Louis Museum have the event for you. Going on March 18th from 9am to 3pm, the St. Louis Museum is having garage sale for all their close-out and clearance items. But it won’t just be their merchandise there, they have partnered with the St. Louis Zoo, Missouri History Museum, Endangered Wolf Center, Campbell House Museum, Cahokia Mounds, Eugene Field House Museum, and the St. Louis Opera Theater to bring you all their souvenirs. St. Louis Museum: Women’s History Celebration

It’s Women’s History Month and the St. Louis Museum is putting on a celebration. On March 18th and 19th, the Museum is putting on events dedicated to women in the arts. They will start of with their yearly panel celebrating woman of color in the arts with the theme of landscapes. The panel will feature artists Allison L. Norfleet Bruenger, Sarah Sense, and Tiff J. Sutton, who will discuss their relationship with the environment and how it informs their practices. The event will be available in person but also will be livestreamed. They also have an event for the whole  family on March 19th. They will have hands-on art activities and special interactive components for kids within the galleries all focused on women artist. Come by and create a colorful portrait of a woman you admire in this week’s hands-on art activity. The event is free and for more information check out this link.

New Cast Gallery Location

Our beautiful cast gallery has finally found a new home here at Ellis library. They are now on display in Room 202. Plaster casts have always been an important part of preserving and studying sculptures from antiquity. However, throughout the years, many such collections have been disposed of or stored away. Mizzou is one of those lucky few that still has their collection on display. So, take the time and visit this wonderful piece of history. The Hydes of March

Detect Nerds are putting on a table top RPG at Cafe Berlin, March 18th. Come watch the crew as they go on a fun filled adventure. It is free to attend but tips are welcome and will help change the outcome of the story. So, if you are into role-playing games or just want something to do, come on down and enjoy a night out. Show-Me-Opera: A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Come join Show-Me-Opera for their production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” As one of Shakespeare’s most famous comedies , the play will delight the audience as the king of the fairies decides to take interest in the love lives of a few mortals that have taken refuge in his forest. The play has two showings: one on Saturday, March 18th and Sunday, March 19th. There will be a different cast for each performance but each will be equally amazing, so it won’t matter which night you decide to go. For more information click here.

Black History & Culture Trivia Night

Join the Columbia public Library for their Black History & Culture Trivia Night. There will questions about music, local and world history, sports, art, literature and more. It will be great fun and a great learning experience. And don’t worry, there will be plenty of mulligans. They will also be providing food and prizes for the winning team.
