April 2009 Staff Spotlight: Kate Anderson & Ryan Bish

Congratulations to our April Staff Spotlight winners, Kate Anderson & Ryan Bish!

Katherine Marie Anderson was born in Wheat Ridge, Colorado and earned her BA in English from Colorado College in Colorado Springs. Shearned her MA (and 1/2 a PhD) in literature and also her MLS from from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
Kate came to MU Libraries from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2005 and works in both the Health Sciences Library and the Veterinary Medical Library.

Trixie the Wonder Dog likves with Kate, having adopted Kate at the Central Missouri Humane Society. Trixie is part Australian Shepher, part Golden Retriever and part mystery parentage.

In her leisure time Kate likes to spend time with Trixie the Wonder Dog and take long walks on the Katy trail with her “pack” (Trixie plus Kate’s husband). Kate enjoys travel, cooking, and … “did I mention the dog?”

Where is the coolest place Kate has ever been? “Devil’s Ice Box?” Seriously, though, Kate and her husband joke that they are touring the world one academic conference at a time. “In 2007 he had a conference in China and I was able to join him. Cooles place ever: Terra Cotta Army in Xi’an.”

In a movie of her life, Kate would like to portray herself, “but I’d my husband portrayed by Daniel Craig.”

Born in Aurora, Illinois, Ryan Lee Bish attended Hermann High School and achieved a BA in Philosophy at MU. He has worked at MU Libraries for 10 years in the Shelving Department at Ellis.

Ryan’s hobbies and interests include
watching movies and listening to music. “In particular I enjoy film classics, old horror and Asian martial arts movies.” The musical styles Ryen enjoys listening to include jazz-fusion, rock, metal, soundtrack music, tradional world music and classical–though not opera. “I am also a big fan of NFL football.”

In his leisure time Ryan enjoys playing the keyboard and programming or arranging music, going for short hikes, continuing his education in science and computing, building and/or upgrading his PCs, collecting music and movies and homebrewing.

Peter Cushing is Ryan’s choice to portray him in a movie of his life.
