Student Mobile IDs Are Available!

Mobile IDs now are available for our students. This means students who have added the TigerCard to their mobile device can now tap their phone or watch on card readers across campus inside the library, dining halls, MizzouRec, the Mizzou Store, Mizzou Pharmacy, Tiger Garden and other select locations.

As the semester begins, we’ll start seeing more students tapping their mobile IDs using a phone or watch rather than using their physical IDs. The experience for those of you who are monitoring the approval or completion of a transaction will be similar. However, there are some important things to know about this change:
• Students should carry their physical ID cards as a backup. If the student’s mobile ID doesn’t work, instruct them to use their physical ID card.
• For issues with the mobile ID, please direct students to call the IT Help Desk at 573-882-5000.
• For issues with the physical ID, please direct students to the ID Office in the lower level of the Mizzou Store or have them call 573-882-1871.
• Students can use their mobile ID for student charge purchases, and it will be billed to their account.
• Students must have purchased a dining plan or have funds in Tiger Cash to use their mobile ID as payment at a dining location.
• The mobile ID can be used immediately after downloading in most locations. For Residential Life locks it may take up to 20 minutes for the first use. MizzouRec, students may need to wait a few hours for their mobile ID to sync.
• Mobile ID is not currently available for faculty and staff, or access to employee areas.

To learn more about the new mobile ID option or to download, please visit the Mizzou mobile ID webpage.

home Staff news External Email Tagging

External Email Tagging

On June 14, 2020 the Division of IT began adding a tag to emails that are received from external email addresses.  The tag looks like this: WARNING: This message has originated from an External Source. Please use proper judgment and caution when opening attachments, clicking links, or responding to this email.

We are adding a tag to battle email spoofing.  Spoofing is a technique cyber criminals use to make an email look like it’s coming from someone you know or work with in order to get you to respond with confidential or sensitive information.  We have seen an uptick in spoofing incidents lately and are adding the tag to help you stay alert and avoid falling victim to these nefarious tactics.

As you know, securing our IT systems is a huge and ever evolving challenge.  Spoofing and phishing pose significant threats and continue to consume a substantial amount of time from our security and email teams at all four Universities.

If you get an email labeled “external” and it appears to be from someone you work with (colleague, supervisor, etc.), please contact that individual  through a different channel to find out if their email is legitimate.  Please remember, all work-related emails must be conducted using your University email account.  Using Gmail or other consumer type email systems to conduct University business is prohibited by policy.

Information Commons Tables to Be Refinished

Good afternoon, the tables in Ellis IC1 have been scheduled to be refinished over winter and spring breaks. DoIT SITE staff will be coming either this afternoon or tomorrow to remove the computers from the tables on the east side and store them in one of the group study rooms until the tables return. These machines are configured in the same way as the computers in IC2, and the machines on the bars looking out the South windows will remain in place as well.  While there will be in impact to the total number of computers, there should not be any loss of software availability.  The refinishing project is expected to take about two weeks.

If all goes according to plan, we will be planning a similar activity over Spring break for the remaining tables in IC1.

Sincerely,
Ernest Shaw
