Complete Wellness Incentive Tier 2 by September 30
Don’t miss your opportunity. If you completed Tier 1 of the 2015 Wellness Incentive, you’re just steps away from receiving an additional $300 in your final October paycheck.* Simply complete 300 points in Tier 2 of the Wellness Incentive on or before September 30, 2015. Registration delayed for step challenge
Because of an upgrade to the website, registration for Step Up with MU Health Care has been delayed. The upgraded website will have a different look and feel than earlier competitions and will allow for better integration for community participants.

Participants should be able to register on the website beginning Friday, Aug. 21, and registration will remain open until 11:59 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14. The start of the contest has not been delayed, so steppers should start recording their steps on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Three decades of research show the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program is effective in helping people cope with medical problems, job or family-related stress, anxiety, and depression. Join this 8-week program to get tools for using formal mindfulness techniques (meditation, yoga, body scan) to response to stress.

Join an upcoming Weight Watchers Open House on your campus. Learn about Weight Watchers at Work, a program where you can lose weight without sacrificing the foods you love and change your relationship with food—all with the convenience of a midday, at-work program. HSL Walking Team Exceeds Goal in Fitness Challenge

Amanda Sprochi’s team, One Health Wanderers, finished 146th of 464 teams participating in MU Healthcare’s “Work Together, Walk Together” walking fitness challenge this fall. 

Averaging 10,972 steps a day, they exceeded their team goal of 10,000 steps a day, for a total of 1487 miles. Other team members included Laura Buck, Diane Johnson and Caryn Scoville.

Lunch Core Yoga. Memorial Union, Various Rooms. (Tuesday Nov. 25 or Dec. 2, Thursday Dec. 4), 12:15-12:45pm. We've all heard the numerous benefits of having a strong core, but many of us end up training just one small part of it and miss many of the benefits. You'll leave with a knowledge that informs your practice in many ways, and immediately helps you access a deeper layer of strength you may not know was there. Yoga Mats and clothing layers are encouraged. Registration closes Nov. 24, $6 each day or $16 all 3.

Fusion Yoga. Memorial Union, Various Rooms (Tuesday Nov. 25 or Dec. 2), 5:10-5:55pm. Each day we are exposed to both environmental and internal toxins that affect our energy, health, vitality, mood, and emotions. These toxins can turn into ailments such as depression, anxiety, weight gain, disease, and high blood pressure, if untreated. We'll move through specific detoxifying yoga sequences, emphasizing the tools of asana, meditation, reflection, and intention to facilitate this inquiry and empower our lives. Yoga Mats and clothing layers are encouraged. Registration closes Nov. 24, $10 each day or $18 for both.

Thai Yoga Bodywork. Various Locations (your office or room reservation availability). Various 30 minute availabilities 11am-2pm Monday, Wednesday, and Friday Nov. 24-December 5. Thai Yoga Bodywork utililizes compression, passive, and active stretch to relieve sneaky tight spots that are referring pain to or from specific regions of your body. In 30 minutes, we will engage the range of motion to deliver more possibility, freedom, and relief. Book early to save $10 off your visit. Spaces are limited.

Wellness Incentive Activities

The Million Step Pedometer Program is a simple walking program designed to get faculty, staff and their families up and moving. Go at your own pace–no time limit applies. You are a success if you take more steps today than you did yesterday. You can use your own pedometer or purchase a Fitbit device from any University of Missouri Bookstore.  For each million steps you walk, you can earn great prizes–including a rebate for a Fitbit purchased from a University Bookstore.  For more information on the Million Step Pedometer Program visit http://www.umsystem.edu/curators/wellness/million_step.

Root Cellar Local Food Box Delivery at Mizzou!

Through a partnership with Healthy for Life, the Root Cellar now offers delivery of their weekly local food subscription program at the University of Missouri and the University of Missouri Healthcare System. The Root Cellar Local Food Box program offers three weekly subscription options to make healthy eating convenient and affordable. Fall/Winter subscriptions are available for $33 plus tax per week from October 30 through March 27. Visit the Root Cellar Local Food Box webpage for more details, FAQ’s and to enroll.

Get fit with Fitbit devices now on sale at UM Bookstores

Healthy for Life has announced a partnership with University of Missouri Bookstores that will make it easier than ever to purchase Fitbit pedometers. Participating in the Million Step Pedometer Program can earn faculty and their families great prizes–including a rebate for a Fitbit zip or flex device purchased from any of the University of Missouri Bookstores locations. Created in 2008, the Million Step Pedometer Program is an easily measurable way to track daily physical activity. It is a great way to get faculty, staff, and their families up and moving.

Using Fitbit devices, steps are tracked more easily than ever before. Through UM Bookstores, the Fitbit Zip is priced at $45, while the Flex is currently priced at $80.

 

The Million Step Pedometer Program is a single facet of the 2015 Wellness Incentive. By participating in the Wellness Incentive, faculty and staff can get cash for getting healthy. Eligible faculty and staff are able to earn up to $450 through a two-tier program that begins October 1, 2014, and ends September 30, 2015. You can earn $100 of your Incentive by walking 1 million steps as part of the Million Step Pedometer Program.

Physical Activity Opportunities in Columbia

Want to participate in a group exercise physical activity class this fall? There are several different options available; see below for more details. Some of these classes would count towards Tier 2 for the 2015 Wellness Incentive, as a Physical Activity on or off campus options (if completed on or after October 1, 2014). Here is a full list of Activities that will earn you points for Tier 2.
