CAPS Updates From Campus HR

Campus HR announces the following changes to CAPS center processes. Both of these should improve the processing of employment-related paperwork, e.g., new hires, terminations.

  1. During the fall rush period, CAPS is increasing the New Employee Registrations sessions from 2 per day to 7 per day. They will offer these additional sessions from August 8th – September 30th.  This should particularly help us with processing the paperwork for new student employees. New hours info can be found at http://hrs.missouri.edu/forms/forms/NER%20CAPS%20Centers%20HRS,%20Aug-Sept%202011.pdf.
  2. Effective August 1st, campus Payroll consolidated with Human Resources.  By November 2011 all CAPS & Payroll personnel will be in the same location.  The goal of this consolidation is to develop a better customer focused organization; eliminating process inefficiencies, improving processing times, and enhancing customer service.

August Lunchtime Leadership Book Talk

The August Lunchtime Leadership Book Talk will take place on the 30th from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m., in 159 Ellis.

This is an opportunity for MU Libraries employees to gather informally over lunch and share quotes from books or articles on the topic of leadership or management that seem especially pertinent for MU Libraries right now. This is open to all library employees as it seems sensible to hear from current and emerging leaders within the organization in terms of what they are reading on the topic.

Attendance is voluntary but compensable for non-exempt supervisors since the discussion applies to the workplace. As such, schedule adjustments may be needed to offset overtime considerations. RSVP’s are not required.

But, we ask you bring a brief something to share with the group, e.g., copies of the talking points of the book or journal article. For examples of documents shared at recent sessions, go to http://mulibraries.missouri.edu/staff/committees/staffdevelopment/default.htm – this leads to a SharePoint site.

Reminder – MU Libraries’ Skill Awareness Workshop #2

Space is available for the upcoming Skill Awareness workshop on “Developing Conflict Competency,” July 27, from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m., 4F51-A Ellis. This workshop looks at the skills needed to increase one’s conflict competency. Participants will discuss different types of conflict, plus the difference between trust and trustworthiness, and identify behaviors that push their ‘hot buttons.’ In addition, participants will be able to reflect upon the skills needed to demonstrate conflict competency, e.g., compassionate listening.

For this and other skills workshops, attendance is voluntary and open to all library employees, per supervisor approval. You can rsvp to Leo at AgnewL@missouri.edu or simply show up on Monday.

See http://mulibraries.missouri.edu/staff/committees/staffdevelopment/programs/2011-2012/Program_calendar.htm for a full description of the Skill Awareness series.

Reminder: MU Libraries’ Skill Awareness Workshop

Space is available for the upcoming Skill Awareness workshop on “Effective Listening,” July 11, from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m., 4F51-A Ellis.  Connie Brooks, Adjunct Associate Professor of Teaching, School of Nursing, School Communication and School of Public Health, leads the workshop and will discuss three types of listening which employees typically encounter in the workplace (and at home): listening that discourages understanding; listening that is more problem-solving; and compassionate listening. Participants will discuss how only one of those types contributes to real dialogue. Participants will increase awareness of the skills needed to promote energetic and resourceful conversations even on difficult topics.

For this and other skills workshops, attendance is voluntary and open to all library employees, per supervisor approval. You can rsvp to Leo at AgnewL@missouri.edu or simply show up on Monday.

See http://mulibraries.missouri.edu/staff/committees/staffdevelopment/programs/2010-2011/Program_calendar.htm for a full description of the Skill Awareness series.
