The Evolving Role of the Library in Institutional and Faculty Assessment – A Discussion of Research Metrics

Librarians have been redefining their role for the past 25 years. In today’s electronic world, librarians position themselves beyond traditional search experts: they focus their activities, expertise, and understanding of complex metrics can now serve a new audience: research administration and research program strategy. In this session, we will review these analytical use cases through the InCites™ platform and hear from Kate Anderson from the University of Missouri, Zalk Veterinary Medical Library, and Karen E. Gutzman, from Northwestern University’s Galter Health Sciences Library, and their role in the use of research performance metrics.

  • Diane Johnson judged papers for the research awards committee.

HSL Librarians and Students Collaborate on ORCID Project

Diane Johnson, Taira Meadowcroft, Gemille Purnell, and Rachel Alexander were collaborators in a Performance Improvement Project featured on a poster for MU Healthcare Sharing Days called, “An email campaign to register research faculty for ORCID identifiers.” This was a joint effort from the School of Medicine Research Council, the Health Sciences Library, and several Health Management and Informatics students participating in the Performance Improvement-Leadership Development Program.

Reverse Trick or Treat at Women’s and Children’s Hospital

The Hospital runs a reverse trick or treat at 1pm on Halloween, where volunteers go from room to room with candies and goodies for the patients. If you would like to participate, please contact Taira Meadowcroft by October 15th

Participation requires supervisor approval, and participants will need to work with their supervisors to either adjust their schedules or use their paid time off (vacation or personal) to cover the time out of the office.

Staffing Changes at the Health Sciences Library

HSL wished a long and happy retirement to Shelley Worden on June 15. Shelley will retire on June 30. After that time, her duties will be distributed to other HSL staff, primarily Diane Johnson, Amanda Sprochi, Renita Richmond, and Ralph Sieli. We will monitor to see if anyone will need to shift some duties to accommodate, but for now, we will give it a try, and take things as they come. If you are unsure of whom to contact about a technical services issue in HSL, please contact Rich Rexroat.
