Fire Demonstration at Speakers Circle on Sept. 10
There will be a live burn of a mock dorm/apartment room at Speakers Circle on September 10 at approximatley11:50 a.m., which will last from 3-5 minutes. A fire crew and truck will be on standby and will extinguish the fire. The outside air to Ellis Library and surrounding buildings will be shut off, but there still may be some smoke that gets into the buildings.

Meet Three Cups of Tea Author Greg Mortenson at Ellis Library
The MU Libraries will host a reception for Greg Mortenson at Ellis Library in the First Floor Colonnade on Tuesday, September 16 from 3-4 p.m. Please join us for refreshments and an opportunity to meet the fascinating author and subject of this year’s Mizzou Reads book. Opening Reception for Alley Oop 75th Anniversary Exhibition, Sept. 10
Celebrate the 75th anniversary of the syndication of the comic strip Alley Oop with an exhibition drawing from The V.T. Hamlin Collection and The Comic Art Collection. The exhibit will explore the evolution of the strip, as well as its place in the history of the comic art medium and American culture. Personal photographs, correspondence, original artwork, daily and Sunday strips from as far back as 1933, books and various other ephemera will be on display.

Promotion Announcements
Congratulations to Kate Anderson, Gary Cox, Amanda Sprochi and Karen Witt on their promotions. Kate moves to Librarian III, Gary moves to Archivist II, and Amanda and Karen move to Librarian II. Their new titles are effective September 1, 2008.
