I learned about a useful website for weather information from reading the Feb. 17, 2010, issue of “American Libraries Direct.” The site is located at http://www.wunderground.com/auto/wxmap/.
As stated in the “American Libraries Direct” issue, the “site gives you a full screen Google Maps display and overlays it with current weather reports from the over 16,000 personal weather stations that report data to the service.”
After you type in your location, there are links to the “Detailed Forecast” and the “Weather Underground” on the lower left side. Click on those links to find a wealth of weather-related information for your location. For example, there are 161 NOAA weather radios available.

Weight Watchers at Work
These 13-week sessions cost $156 and include 8 weeks of FREE e-tools. Payment options are available and Weight Watchers accepts checks, cash and credit card. All faculty and staff who attend 12 of 13 weeks qualify for a 25% rebate through Healthy for Life. Weight Watchers fees are fully reimbursable through the Flexible Spending Account with appropriate medical documentation.
• Memorial Union International Center Conference Room- Weight Watchers will be holding an informational meeting on Friday, Feb. 26 from noon until 1 p.m. There’s no need to register, just show up. We have 7 people on the roster and only need 8 more to start the class.
• Lemone Blvd Area (class will be held at MORENet)- We are still collecting names for anyone interested in attending a meeting here. A particular weekday has not been selected, however it will likely be 12 p.m.-1 p.m. We have 13 people on the roster and only need 2 more to start the class. Noon Time Stress Reduction Meditation
Research over the past two decades suggests that engaging in a regular mindfulness meditation practice can reduce stress and enhance overall psychological and physical wellbeing. Find out for yourself by taking advantage of the noon-time (12:15 p.m. – 12:45 p.m.) sitting meditation sessions across campus each week. All faculty and staff are welcome on a drop-in basis, and no previous experience with meditation is necessary. If you can’t make the noon time sitting meditation group, consider listening to one of the audio recordings. Join Healthy for Life for one of the following times and locations:

Pay and Benefits Preference Study
Don’t forget to participate in the Pay and Benefits Preference Study between now and Feb. 28! The survey should take no more than 15 minutes to complete and gives you a chance have your opinion heard. Results from this survey will tell UM Faculty & Staff Benefits what pay and benefits features you value most and how they can create a package that might serve your needs more effectively. To maintain confidentiality, responses will be tabulated by Hewitt Associates, an independent human resources consulting firm. Individual responses will not be identified in the results. Be sure to look in your inbox or home mailbox for the survey.
Women’s Health and Wellness Fair
The 3rd annual Women’s Health and Wellness Fair will be held in Memorial Union (Stotler Lounge) on Thursday, March 4 from 11:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Over 20 campus and community organizations will be there including the Women’s Center, Susan G. Koman, Alley Cat Yoga, Grindstone Fitness, American Heart Association and many more! The fair is open to all Mizzou faculty, staff, and students and is hosted by the MU Chancellor’s Committee on the Status of Women. Please contact Rebecca Calvin, calvinr@missouri.edu, with questions.
The 2010 statewide severe weather exercise will be held at approximately 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 9. Jim Cogswell has requested that all Ellis library staff participate in this year’s severe weather exercise. If you are in a patron service area, have minimal staff stay in area during the drill to serve the patrons.
Severe Weather Exercise Drill:
1. The outdoor warning sirens sound as one part of the local warning network. The sirens are used only as an attention getting device.
2. Ellis Security will be making a staff only announcement at 1:30p.m., Tuesday, March 9th informing the staff only that the serve weather exercise is beginning.
3. For security reason please lock your office doors.
4. Ellis security staff will be making rounds in the safe areas, please feel free to ask any questions.
5. When the drill is over security will make a 2nd announcement inform staff to return to their work areas.
For severe weather, emergency plan:
All Ellis staff should move to the ground floor hallway behind the grand staircase; staff lounge, lower stairwells, LTS hallway, twin elevator area and/or colonnade area of the first floor and DoIt computer area. Due to the danger of shattered glass, it is important to keep people away from windows and the “hole” (the opening above the Bookmark Café).

The Diversity Action Committee and MULSA invite you to participate in a gathering on March 11 to enjoy a variety of international teas and snacks. The event will take place from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. in the Ellis Library Staff Lounge.
DAC and MULSA will provide most of the food items; menu options are listed below. However, you are invited to contribute a tea flavor or snack that represents your cultural heritage. If interested in contributing an item, contact either Ivy Hui (HuiO@health.missouri.edu) or Yasuyo Knoll (KnollY@health.missouri.edu). Feel free to bring you own plates/spoons, too.
