Update From the Ellis Reference Department

We have been busy…
In September, the Ellis Reference Department did 69 instruction sessions reaching over 1340 students.  Additionally, we did 65 FIG and other freshmen orientations sessions (a total of 115 tours) reaching over 1000 freshmen.  In August we were all over campus representing MU Libraries at various campus orientations including Graduate and Professional Student Fall Orientation, Minority Graduate Student Orientation, Residential Life Staff Resource Training, New Faculty Orientation, International Student Orientation, etc. reaching over 1000 students, faculty and staff.

Agnew and Dykas Present at MO Library Association

Leo and Jean Darbyshire, Kansas State University Libraries-Director Emeritus and human capacity development/organization development consultant, co-facilitated a workshop at MOLA on positive approaches to organizational change. This was the second year they gave the workshop at MOLA. Of note, Leo, Jean and their colleague from the KU Libraries, Keith Russell, Life Sciences Librarian and learning and development specialist, have now presented their workshop at conferences in four states: MO, KS, OK, and AL.

Felicity Dykas gave a presentation on “Getting Ready for RDA.” Power Point slides of the presentation are available at http://mulibraries.missouri.edu/staff/catalogdept/presentations/rda2010oct.ppt

Tech Tip – Printing From Outlook

Printing from Outlook can be challenging, because it’s a little different from other Office applications. Other Office apps let you print directly from the print menu, whereas Outlook doesn’t. Instead, you must click the small Print Options button on the Print menu. From there select a Page Range option and you can specify the number of pages you would like to print from your email.

Sanders Attends ACRL RBMS Regional Workshop

Wayne Sanders, Catalog Department, recently attended the ACRL Rare Books & Manuscripts Section’s regional workshop Latin for Rare Materials Catalogers held at Indiana University in Bloomington on October 22nd.  Jennifer McDonald, University of Delaware in Newark (formerly of  The Vatican Film Library at Saint Louis University), and Jennifer Nelson, University of California at Berkeley, taught this intensive workshop covering Latin grammar, declination, personal names, place names, abbreviations, contractions from the manuscript tradition, and reference sources to approximately 15 catalogers and library science students from across the country.
