Endorsed by the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission, Chris Vallillo’s historically accurate program showcases period music directly associated with Lincoln using the president’s own stories and words to explore his life and  times and the issues he faced while in office. Not a requirement for attendees, but if you would like, dress in Civil War era clothing. The costume judged best will win a prize.

Annual Enrollment is Now Open

Annual Enrollment for benefit-eligible faculty and staff is open through Friday, October 31, 2014.  Go to myHR to begin selecting your medical and other insurance plans. You must select and submit a medical plan choice, or you and your currently enrolled family members will be defaulted to the Healthy Savings Plan for 2015 and pay taxes on the premiums. Wellness Incentive Activities

The Million Step Pedometer Program is a simple walking program designed to get faculty, staff and their families up and moving. Go at your own pace–no time limit applies. You are a success if you take more steps today than you did yesterday. You can use your own pedometer or purchase a Fitbit device from any University of Missouri Bookstore.  For each million steps you walk, you can earn great prizes–including a rebate for a Fitbit purchased from a University Bookstore.  For more information on the Million Step Pedometer Program visit http://www.umsystem.edu/curators/wellness/million_step.  

Goodbye to Wayne Barnes

Wayne Barnes will be retiring from the University of Missouri. His last work day will be Monday, October 27. There will be a small reception in the East Reference offices on the 27th from Noon-3pm. Please stop by and wish Wayne well.

 

Updates from Health Sciences Library

Barb Jones and Rebecca Graves taught the class “Applying Information Expertise to the Challenge of Diagnostic Error Reduction” at the QuintEssential meeting in Denver, CO on October 20, 2014.  The meeting was a joint meeting between five Medical Library Association chapters.

Barb Jones presented a poster at the QuintEssential meeting in Denver, CO.  Title of the poster is “Evidence Transfer in Diagnosis: Exploring Evidence Intervention to Enhance Value and Reliability.”   The poster was given the “Most Innovative Work” award.

NDSA Update

The National Digital Stewardship Alliance report "Web Archiving in the United States: A 2013 Survey," has just been released and is available at http://www.digitalpreservation.gov/ndsa/working_groups/documents/NDSA_USWebArchivingSurvey_2013.pdf.

The survey, conducted by a team of NDSA members, led by the Content Working Group, took place from October through November of 2013, and builds upon a similar survey undertaken by the NDSA in late 2011.  The goal of the survey was to better understand the landscape of web archiving activities in the United States by investigating the organizations involved, the history and scope of their web archiving programs, the types of web content being preserved, the tools and services being used, access and discovery services being provided, and overall policies related to web archiving programs.
