March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month
March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Colorectal Cancer is affects both men and women and is the third most common cancer in the United States and a leading cause of death from cancer.  The risk of getting colorectal cancer increases with age. More than 90% of cases occur in people who are 50 years old or older (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2013). The best way to prevent colorectal cancer is to get screened regularly starting at age 50. There are often no signs or symptoms of colorectal cancer – that’s why it’s so important to get screened. To increase awareness about the importance of colorectal cancer screening, Healthy for Life is proudly participating in Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

Everyone can take these healthy steps to help prevent colorectal cancer:

  • Get screened starting at age 50.
  • Quit smoking and stay away from secondhand smoke.
  • Get active and eat healthy.

For more information on colorectal cancer visit http://www.cdc.gov/cancer/dcpc/resources/features/ColorectalAwareness/
