Are you Computing “Healthy”?
Do you experience back pain, wrist cramps, or headaches from working at your computer all day? If so, a Workstation Analysis, performed by the Adaptive Computing Technology (ACT) Center, may help alleviate some discomfort and prevent long-term injury.
People are all shapes and sizes; therefore, not every workstation can consist of the same set-up and computing tools while providing the same level of comfort and productivity. An ACT Center staff member is able to evaluate your personal workstation, at no cost, as well as provide suggestion on how to reduce strain in areas that may be causing pain. They can also provide suggestions for alternative computing tools to make you feel more comfortable throughout your day.
The ACT Center believes that a Workstation Analysis can be beneficial in many ways:
· Increase productivity
· Boost morale
· Reduce injury
Healthy computing starts with the proper posture and tools needed to make computing comfortable and productive. Visit http://actcenter.missouri.edu/services/workstation-analysis.html or contact the ACT Center at (573) 884-2600 to schedule an appointment.

Taking Care of YOU: Body • Mind • Spirit

Life is full of choices—and those choices affect the body, mind and spirit. Taking Care of YOU is designed to help you deal with life's stress, make wise choices and explore ways to live a healthier life. Taking Care of YOU is an eight-week program that offers practical strategies to help deal with the stress in your life. Managing life's challenges in healthy ways allows you to take better care of yourself and your overall health. Each week you will explore topics through small group discussion, self-reflection and activities.

February is American Heart Month
February is American Heart Month. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women, but heart disease is preventable and controllable. “Coronary heart disease occurs when a substance called plaque builds up in the arteries that supply blood to the heart. Coronary heart disease can cause heart attack, angina, heart failure, and arrhythmias” (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2013). Healthy for Life wants you to know that there are things you can do to plan for prevention. Start by taking small steps toward healthier lifestyle choices and managing any current medical conditions you may have. Below is a list of ways to plan for prevention.
· Eat a healthy diet
· Maintain a healthy weight
· Exercise regularly
· Monitor blood pressure
· Don’t smoke
· Limit alcohol use
· Have your cholesterol checked
· Manage your diabetes
· Take your medication
