Mobile devices are products such as smartphones, media tablets, media players, and e-readers. Many users overlook the fact that they are carrying a device with the same functionality and processing power of any other networked computer, thus placing themselves at great risk for exploitation.  With new vulnerabilities discovered every day, there is a need to protect the data saved, accessed, and distributed from mobile devices.

To ensure that you are protected, follow these 10 simple best practices:

  1. Enable a PIN, passcode, or pattern.
  2. Never store sensitive data.
  3. Keep your operating system and applications current.
  4. Only download applications from trusted sources and just install the applications you need.
  5. Always read installation prompts before downloading applications and software.
  6. Keep optional network connections, such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, turned off when not in use.
  7. Limit your web browsing to well-known and trusted websites and use encryption when possible.
  8. Employ remote wiping in the event your device becomes misplaced or stolen.
  9. Data sanitize your device prior to disposing of it.

10.  Know the policy.
