Reminder on Group Process Training Session #3

As mentioned in News Notes 11/11/11, http://mulibraries.missouri.edu/newsnotes/?p=4129, SDC is sponsoring a two-part training series on group process methods. Session #2 will take place Dec. 20, 2:00 – 3:00 p.m., 4F51-A Ellis, and will provide the opportunity to practice the methods of Brainstorming, Affinity Diagram, and Multivoting. This format combines elements of session 2 with session 3. I’m doing this to make up for missing session 2 on Dec. 13. Sorry about that.

Update on the Moves in Documents and Reference

The initial phase of the shift of materials in Documents has been completed.  This was primarily a shift of the Y4 group to UMLD2, although some libraries received parts to enhance their own collections.  Most of the shelving went to UMLD2 to house these materials, but some shelving was temporarily moved near the Reference stacks in a holding area for use later.  Additional items that were moved to open up as much space as possible included microfiche cabinets, shelflist cabinets, map cases, counter shelving and a few other Documents items.

The area now cleared for carpeting is directly north, west and northwest of the Documents office.  Carpeting of the area could begin within a week.  This is the first step in a series of stages of materials shifting, then carpeting.

There are also two minor shifts in parts of the Reference collection.  Here are the reasons for the shifts:

  1. To free up shelving that will be used after carpet has been placed.  The Reference shelving will generally be moved to the footprint of the small ranges of Documents—often referred to as “Documents lite.”
  2. The existing shelving in Reference will need to be moved anyway (for carpeting), and these empty stack ranges can easily be moved to the new footprint.
  3. If these were not used, there would be a need to identify matching supports, base units, end panels, brackets and shelves, all of which would need to be assembled.  Use of existing stack ranges saves time, labor and effort.
  4. This also consolidates the Reference collection into a more compact and cohesive unit for the time being, although this is a temporary measure.

The estimate is that this will produce about three half ranges of shelving and two mini counter shelving units.  None of these will be moved, of course, until the carpet is ready.  At least two parallel half ranges are necessary for the final shift so that they can be braced at the top for safety and stability.  After Reference materials are moved to the new location, additional open stack ranges will be produced to continue the cycle.

Healthy for Life Update

Eat for Life: Now Enrolling for Spring 2012
Discover the benefits of this innovative approach to weight management.  This ten week program uses mind-body practices (meditations and yoga), the principles of mindful and intuitive eating, skills training, and group support to guide you in making lifestyle changes that will help you create a healthier relationship to your food, mind, and body. If you have a history of chronic dieting, have rigid “healthy” rules about eating, or find yourself eating when you’re stressed, bored, or unhappy, this may be the program for you. Cost is $50 ($25 rebate if you attend 9 of 10 classes/comment on discussion board posts).

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction: Now Enrolling for Spring 2012

Helping employees manage stress effectively is a key goal of Healthy for Life, the Thomas E. Atkins Wellness Program. The wellness program offers eight-week mindfulness-based stress reduction classes at minimal cost to benefit-eligible employees looking to manage today’s busy lifestyles in a healthy way. For more information or to sign up, please contact Lynn Rossy, Ph.D. at RossyL@umsystem.edu. This eight–week class teaching meditation, yoga and other mind-body techniques for managing stress. For more information about MBSR, visit the Program section of this website. There is a $40 registration fee, $20 reimbursement if you attend seven of the eight classes.

Brown Wins Photo Contest

Congratulations to Abbie Brown, the winner of  this year’s Development Birthday Card photo contest. Her photo will be featured on the 201s MU Libraries birthday cards. She also recived two Concert Series tickets for her efforts.

We plan on making this an annual event, so plan on submitting your Missouri photo at the end of next year.

 

Year End Payroll Reminder

It’s getting close to the end of the tax year and I’d like take a moment to ask you all to remind your employees to verify or update their address(es) at https://myhr.umsystem.edu.  This will help ensure correct delivery of W-2 forms next January.  Addresses should be updated no later than 12/31/2011!

The “HOME” address is where W-2 forms will be mailed unless a “MAILING” address is provided.  For example, if a student provides us with the following:

We will send the W-2 to the Kansas address.

Each year we are not able to process reprints of W-2s for any reason until the middle of February (a date determined by System Payroll).  Reminding your employees to update their address will help reduce the need for reprints.

Healthy for Life Update

The University of Missouri Total Rewards invites you to join Healthy for Life, an incentive-based wellness program designed to help you actively manage your health. By completing a personal health assessment and health screening, primary subscribers to the UM Health Care plan will receive $100 in a tax-favored account to use for medical expenses in 2012 Benefit Plan year.

This year, we’re partnering with Cerner Health to provide straightforward tools to help you work toward better health. You can participate in the program now. It’s simple. Here’s how:

  1. Create your Cerner Health account by visiting www.healthyforlife.umsystem.edu.
  2. Enter your email address and join the program.
  3. Complete your personal health assessment – an online questionnaire that helps you understand your health risks and provides you with resources to improve your well-being.
  4. Schedule your FREE health screening at a convenient time and location on campus. Your health screening provide you a look at your cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure, height and weight. If your screening is before noon, fasting for 9 hours is recommended, but not required (6 hours if pregnant) and drinking 64 ounces of water the day before is suggested.

Did you know?

If you have had your annual physical since July 2011, you can complete the Doctor Screening Form and fax it in! it must be completed in its entirety to get credit.

If you’ve not received your flu shot yet, you have one more opportunity while supplies last. Join Healthy for Life in Memorial Union’s Stotler Lounge on Dec. 13th from 1-3:30 p.m. FREE flu shots will be provided for those 12 years and older enrolled in a UM Health Care plan. To receive the vaccination, bring your health insurance card and a completed Flu Vaccine form. Those not enrolled in a UM Health Care plan can receive a vaccination for $15 cash or check, along with the completed Flu Vaccine form.
