Creating a Healthy Workplace—A teambuilding workshopTaking care of ourselves during the workday helps us be more engaged, be more productive, and have more energy for our work and our lives beyond work.  Participants learn how to balance being engaged and engaging in quick recovery techniques throughout the day so they can meet the challenges of a busy workplace.  Set individual and team goals for overcoming barriers to creating a culture of wellness at work.   Contact Lynn Rossy, Ph.D., Health Psychologist for Healthy for Life, at RossyL@umsystem.edu for more details and to schedule a workshop for your area.

Choices for Balance Workshop
Do you feel overwhelmed, super stressed, or struggle to decide which activity to tackle next?  Learn better balance for all work and home activities.  This course will give you access to the personal tools we all have that can immediately improve your quality of life.  Participants will learn simple, proven techniques that will allow enjoyment of each moment to its fullest potential. Classes are offered every Tuesday, see schedule below. Registration is required and the deadline for each session is the Friday prior to the Tuesday class. Massage Therapy Available
De-stress this season with massage therapy! Licensed Massage Therapist Jeff Rioux provides clinical massage therapy in his office at University Hospital (GL-20). He also provides department chair massage in three-hour blocks. To schedule an individual appointment or chair massage, call Healthy for Life at 884-1312.

If you’d like to buy a gift certificate, stop by Medtique Gift Shop in University Hospital or the Healthy for Life office at 205 Heinkel Building on campus, OR  drop a check in campus mail to 205 Heinkel Building specifying the length of session you want. 30 minutes: $30 Mondays & Tuesdays: 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
60 minutes: $45 Wednesdays: 1-7 p.m.
90 minutes: $65 Thursdays: 11 a.m.-7 p.m.

Take advantage of these classes that fit your budget. Full payment is due at the beginning of the first class and space is limited. Please contact the instructor directly to register or for questions. All classes are designed so that exercises can be performed in work clothes.

  • Apr. 4-Apr. 25: Hatha Yoga. Missouri Psychiatric Gym. Class meets on Mondays from 12:10 to 12:50 p.m. and costs $12 for the four-week session. Emphasizes core, hips, arms, chest, legs and back. Class is suitable for all fitness levels. Learn from a yoga teacher with more than 30 years experience and is a world champion powerlifter who emphasizes total workout and stress management.   • Apr. 4-May 9: Y-In Balance. Memorial Union, Rooms vary. Class meets on Mondays from 12:10 to 12:50 p.m. and costs $18 for the six-week session.   • Apr. 6-May 11: Foundations of Power Vinyasa. Memorial Union, Rooms vary. Class meets on Wednesdays from 12:10 to 12:50 p.m. and costs $18 for the six-week session. Building functional intrinsic strength, movement is empowered by linking breath and consciousness for a life affirming mind-body connection. A yoga mat is highly recommended.   • Apr. 5-May 11: Dalton Yoga. Dalton Research Library. Class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:10-12:50 p.m. and costs $32 for the eight-week series. This class is hatha yoga combined with core work taught by registered yoga instructor Lisa Nagy. Pre-registration is required. CIGS Race/Walk, Mark Your Calendar!

Come and join us on April 16th for a 4 mile run or 1.3 mile walk. Proceeds benefit research of smoking-related disease through the University of Missouri’s Division of Pulmonary/Critical Care & Environmental Medicine. The Run/Walk will be located at the Quarterdeck Building on Lemone Industrial Blvd in Columbia. The cost is $5 for students, $15 for individuals, or $25 for families (kids and pets welcome), which includes a free T-shirt for participants. To register, go to www.smsg.org or call 573-882-2101.

  • Bike Mechanics College

Back by popular demand– Tuesdays starting May 10.   • Confident City Cycling

Spend $80 to fill up your gas tank and drive for two weeks OR spend $80 on a Confident City Cycling class, drive less all summer, and pocket $80 a month as you cycle past the gas stations. Classes take place  every Monday in April or Saturday, May 21 Contact gina@pednet.org or at 573-303-1033.
