Ride to Wellness Odometer Program
Ride to Wellness encourages movement for those riding bicycles or using wheelchairs. For $20 participants receive an odometer and log book. When you reach 500 miles, turn in the booklet for a prize and receive a $20 refund. To enroll, send or bring a $20 check (our cost, made payable to Healthy for Life) to 205 Heinkel Building. MU Farmers Market
Delicious prepared foods and produce await you at the MU Farmers Market Thursday June 24th on Lowry Mall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Vendors will be from the Columbia Farmers Market and Boone County Farmers Market. Bring cash or check (no student charge accepted) for mouth-watering and locally grown produce, baked goods, hamburgers and more to sample and purchase. The MU Farmers Market is brought to you by the Wellness Resource Center, Department of Student Life. Healthy for Life will also have a table with pedometers and odometers for sale and the opportunity to enroll in our programs.

Lifestyle Change Group
Tired of the Yo-Yo diet? Want a healthier lifestyle? Need a support system to help take charge of your life? Join the Lifestyle Change Group every Tuesday starting July 13th 12:30 p.m. – 1 p.m. at the Quarterdeck Building. Cost is only $5 for every 10 week session. If your department is interested in a “brown bag” seminar on cholesterol/blood pressure please contact us. Lindsey Cook, RN, is delighted to share her knowledge with you and your colleagues on this important wellness issue. Presentation length can be 30-45 minutes.

Team Building Wellness Sessions
Healthy for Life’s Jenny Workman, program manager, and Armine Alioto, MUHS Nurse Manager , would like to give a brief wellness presentation during one of your faculty, staff or departmental meetings this summer, tailored to meet your needs (physical activity, nutrition &/or stress reduction). These are short, effective, and free sessions to help faculty and staff build on common wellness and productivity goals and will inform your department about free or low cost Healthy for Life programs available. Celebrate summer with a massage! Licensed Massage Therapist Jeff Rioux provides clinical massage therapy in his office at University Hospital (GL-20). Employees receive a discount: 30m-$30, 60m-$45, 90m-$65. Schedule your appointment today by calling 884-1312. Jeff is available Mon/Tues 9 a.m.-7 p.m.; Wed. 1-7 p.m.; and Thurs. 11 a.m.-7 p.m. If you’d like to buy a gift certificate, stop by Medtique Gift Shop in University Hospital or the Healthy for Life office in 205 Heinkel Building on campus.

Summer Workplace Fitness Classes
Take advantage of these classes that fit your budget. Full payment is due at the beginning of the first class and space is limited. Please contact the instructor directly to register or for questions. All classes are designed so that exercises can be performed in work clothes.

  • Yoga Flow: June 17 – July 15 in the School of Nursing Room S265. Thursdays 12:10-12:50p.m. and costs $8 for the 4 week session. Office attire can be worn, a mat or towel is recommended. Whether it’s the flow of the breath or the flow of the body through poses, ‘Flow’ is a simple title that covers so much more. To sign up, email Rebekka.
  • R & R: Renew & Restore: June 23 – July 14 Lewis Hall Room 3. Classes are Wednesdays 12:10-12:50. Cost is only $8 for the 4 week session. Bring any mental or physical tension and leave feeling refreshed for the rest of the day. Breathwork, stretches, and mindfulness equal one relaxing time. Email Rebekka to sign up.
  • Maguire Office Stretching: June 21 – Aug 16 [No class July 5th] in the Printing Services Atrium.  Office Stretch is designed to release tension from long hours of work and is great for all levels of ability.  Office attire is fine.  Classes are Mondays 11:30-12:00 p.m.  The cost for this 8 week session is $8, payable on the first day of class.   • Mat Yoga: June 23-July 28 Ellis Fischel Cancer Center PACU. Classes are Wednesdays 5:20-6:00p.m. and costs $12 for the 6 week session. Pre-registration is required, and registration deadline is June 21. Click here to sign up, or email Ashley.

  • Maguire Yogic Toning: June 24 – Aug 5 in the Printing Services Atrium.  Yogic toning is a combination class of standing resistance training, standing and mat yoga designed for all levels of ability and includes deep relaxation.  Classes are Thursdays 4:15pm – 4:50 p.m.  The cost for this 7 week session is $14, payable on the first day of class.  Pre-registration is required, minimum of 10 students required.   • Pilates/Yoga Combination (Pi/Yo) July 9 – 23, room 224-225 in MORENet, on Lemone Ind Blvd. Classes are Wednesdays 11-11:40 a.m.  Cost is $6 for the 3 week session. A fusion of the strength and movement of Pilates and the stretch and relaxation of yoga. A mat is highly recommended for floor exercises. E-mail Rebekka to sign up.
  • Jesse Hall Yoga: Jul 13 – Aug 17 in Jesse Hall room 220. Classes are Tuesdays 4:15-5 p.m. Cost is $12 for the 6 week session. Pre-registration is required, minimum of 10 students required. Deadline to register is July 4th. Email Rebecca P to sign up.
