Update: Pay Phones in Ellis Library

As reported in the last issue of News Notes, the pay phones in Ellis Library have been turned off. The pay phones were turned off due to lack of use and increasing costs, which resulted in a negative cash flow. In addition, they had become a disturbance because they would often ring with nuisance calls and had to be left off the hook.

Patrons who need to make campus or local calls should be directed to the disability phone (near the West Entrance), which will remain in use.

  1. Question: is the disability phone free for all calls, and are there classes of calls that cannot be made on it (e.g., long distance, operator-assisted, collect)?
