Stress Reduction Program- Now Enrolling
The Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program is an 8 week class that teaches skills for responding to stress with greater skill and creativity using formal mindfulness skills (meditation, yoga, body scan) and information about stress, communication, and wellness. Participants will be expected to engage in daily practice exercises outside of class. Orientation: Tuesday, June 1, at 5 p.m. Class: Tues. (June 8-June 29) & Wed. (July 14-Aug. 4) from 5-7 p.m. Full day retreat on July 24(9 a.m.-4 p.m.). Cost: $40($20 refunded if you attend 7 of 8 classes). New Date: Quarterdeck Wellness Screening
Join Healthy for Life on Thursday, July 15th from 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. outside the cafeteria on main floor of the Quarterdeck Building. Screenings will be available for cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, body mass index and waist circumference. Sign up for your fasting cholesterol appointment at the front lobby desk.

Please be sure to drink plenty of water before the test and take your medications as usual. For the best results do not eat anything for 9-12 hours before the test. Email Armine Alioto, RN with questions.

Lunch n’ Learns
If your department is interested in a “brown bag” seminar on cholesterol/blood pressure please contact us. Lindsey Cook, RN is delighted to share her knowledge with you and your colleagues on this important wellness issue. Presentation length can be 30-45 minutes.

Safe Kids Day
Be a part of Safe Kids Day on Saturday, June 5th from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Columbia Regional Hospital. This event is FREE  telling children, parents, and babysitters ways to be safe in a fun way.  Topics that will be discussed include brain injury, drowning, electrocutions, burns, seat belts, etc. Enjoy food, interactive safety booths and games. S

Seeking Healthy Men
The Department of Nutrition and Exercise Physiology is seeking individuals for a study on how different types of weight-bearing exercise affect bone health. They are looking for healthy men, 25-60 years old who are currently participating in 4hr/wk of physical activity for the last 2 years and not currently participating in strength or plyometric (jumping) training .  You will receive free and supervised resistance training or plyometric training, body composition testing, bone mineral density assessment and payment after completing the study. Preserving the Harvest
Join the University of Missouri Extension for a home canning workshop. Each session will include detailed research-based information and recipes for each food preservation method, demonstrations, and resources. Class size is limited so register early. National Cancer Survivors Day
Please join Ellis Fischel Cancer Center physicians and staff to celebrate National Cancer Survivors Day.
