Tech Tip

http://www.mailboxmap.com/

As we enter the traveling season, it is always nice to know where the mailboxes are so we can send our post cards home. As we plan our big vacation this year in Kansas City, I started looking for mailbox locations.

Just enter an address, city and state, or ZIP code, and it will display a map showing the locations of mailboxes, post offices and UPS pickups in the neighborhood. Click on a mailbox icon if you would like to see the pickup times or the post office hours.

If you find a mailbox, post office, or UPS pickup that is not on the map, just email the information to mailboxmap@gmail.com

Show-Me the World – via WorldCat

You probably know that you can search the WorldCat database via FirstSearch or WorldCat.org. Did you know we now have a union catalog for Missouri? To search for holdings in Missouri libraries, try the new Missouri Group catalog: missouri.worldcat.org/. You can use this catalog to scope to all Missouri libraries, Missouri public libraries, or different regions in Missouri including the Mid-Missouri region.

Some of the neat features:
• Individual bibliographic records show which libraries in Missouri own a title: http://missouri.worldcat.org/oclc/9756742&referer=brief_results
• You can view recent acquisitions for individual Missouri libraries. The information is based on holdings information in WorldCat. Try this out with the following:
o For MU Libraries, you can view lists for:
–MU Libraries (except HSL and Vet): http://missouri.worldcat.org/libraries/5438
–HSL and Vet: http://missouri.worldcat.org/libraries/4501
–You’ll see a drop-down menu that offers options to limit to other MU Libraries branches. Since we don’t add information to WorldCat based on specific branches only those noted above will work.
o MU Law: http://missouri.worldcat.org/libraries/4496
o Daniel Boone Regional Library: http://missouri.worldcat.org/libraries/12257
• You can set up an account and create lists of favorites, add tags and reviews to records, etc. This is available in WorldCat.org, too.

This catalog is one of the services offered by the State Library as part of the Show Me the World program: http://mo.webjunction.org/moshowme.

From UM/MU HR: Preventing Employment Discrimination Training

To help all employees gain a better understanding of what constitutes discrimination and how it can be prevented, UM Human Resources has developed an on-line Preventing Employment Discrimination Training program designed to educate employees about this highly sensitive issue. Our expectation is that every employee should take this training.

Here are the directions to access the training module. This is in the same location as the Preventing Sexual Harassment Training employees took last year.

1. Go to https://myhr.umsystem.edu/psp/prd/?cmd=login

2. Log in with your User ID and Password

3. Click on “Self Service” on the menu

4. Click on “Personal Information” on the menu

5. Click on “HR Training – PED” to commence the training.

6. After reading the Chancellor’s letter select “Continue” at the bottom of the page.

7. On the page labeled “Preventing Employment Discrimination,” select the version of the training module that is applicable to your relationship to the University (e.g., Supervisory or Non-supervisory)

8. Follow the directions in the training module to move through the entire module.

9. Complete the Mastery Test. You must score 80% to pass the test. You may re-take the test as many times as needed to master the information. No record is maintained of how many times you take the test.

10. Once your test score is 80 percent or above, please complete your personal information located at the end of the test and click the button below to create the certificate and record your results. The certificate may be printed and kept as part of your personal records; however, you do not need to send a copy to Human Resource Services.

11. You may need to disable pop up blockers to view this training.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this request.
