Hello to Julie Rogers, Security Officer. Julie’s position serves as the Assistant Head of Security and includes managing the security department and security efforts when the Head Security Officer is not on duty. Julie’s work experience includes project manager, patient advocate, associate counselor and rehabilitation technician and office/personnel manager.

Job Vacancy, Office Support Staff III

*Office Support Staff III; 100% FTE, M-F, 8-5, $9.93/hr. Administration, Ellis Library.

Duties: Perform a variety of responsible and complex support services for the MU Libraries Fiscal Officer. Requires extensive attention to detail, maintain accurate and confidential financial information, data entry, report generation, ordering supplies, etc.

Provide general support for the MU Libraries Administrative Offices. Serve as primary contact for MU Libraries Administrative Offices for face-to-face, phone and email inquires; requires effective interpersonal skills, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to follow through on projects with minimum oversight.

Provide high level support for Libraries Fiscal Officer. Duties include but are not limited to: Conduct review and reconciliation of financial records in PeopleSoft; Identify sources to meet the libraries purchasing needs. Communicate appropriate feedback to staff in response to their purchase requests; Initiate orders and provide necessary information to ensure receipt and payment; Prepare Lapsed Salary reports; Provide Controls review; Perform accounts payable functions including but not limited to travel and other vouchers; Perform PeopleSoft data-entry, requisitioning and receiving processes, generate money received reports; Update budget spreadsheets (travel, purchases, gift budget, etc.); Manage receipts and credit card records.

Provide general office support for library Administrative Office staff. Assist with supervising and assigning tasks to student assistants in Administrative Offices, as needed.

Perform basic math computations. Work under direct supervision and meet speed and accuracy goals as determined by the department. Other duties as assigned. More information is available via the job description.

Minimum Qualifications: A high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities can be acquired is necessary. Six months of responsible office experience is necessary. Directly related education or training may be substituted for experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Requires excellent telephone skills and strong interpersonal communication skills. Proficiency in Word, Outlook and Excel and accuracy in typing and data entry a must. Ability to handle a fast paced office with high volume of visitors. Requires ability to work well with others, attention to detail, organization and initiative.

Job Vacancy, User Support Analyst

User Support Analyst – 100% FTE, M-F, 8am-5pm, Library Technology Services. Salary is commensurate with experience and competency level.

Duties: Provide first-level computer support for the MU Libraries. This includes the Ellis Library computer lab located on first floor, computers located in the Library Information Commons, and other areas as defined by supervisor. Work assignments will include performing hardware and software installation, configuration, upgrades, and enhancements of hardware (Apple, PC and peripherals), standard software applications (Windows XP, MS Office 2K3, 2K7, Outlook) and specialized software applications; setup of new equipment, imaging, installation of software upgrades, routine and preventive maintenance; consultation with end users to determine scope and nature of problems and proposing solutions; Troubleshoot and resolve problems with personal computers, workstations, laptops, peripherals, etc.; The incumbent will be expected to enter and track service calls through the Department’s call tracking database; Incumbent will work closely with Ellis User Services division to assist end users as appropriate.

Minimum qualifications: In appraising the relative qualifications of candidates for all levels, consideration will be given to the extent and type of experience with the various information technology functions and to the extent and type of pertinent education and formal training. Recent experience in configuring, installing, upgrading, and troubleshooting Intel-based PCs; previous experience supporting end users and working directly with them to solve problems; recent experience with Windows and XP Professional desktop support and administration; ability to work productively within a team environment; ability to plan and prioritize work and meet deadlines; strong interpersonal and communications skills, including the ability to work productively and cooperatively with end users with a variety of backgrounds and technical skill levels; strong customer service focus; good listening skills; ability to explain technical issues clearly.

Preferred qualifications: MCSE or MCSA certification or has taken classes for certification. Experience working in a library environment.

Job Vacancy, Library Information Assistant, Journalism Library

*Library Information Assistant , 100% FTE, Sun. – Thurs., 3pm-12am, $8.79/hr; Journalism Library. (Shift differential of $0.50/hr available for evening hours).

Duties: Evening supervisor for the Journalism Library. Responsibilities include circulation, reserve, electronic reserve, and interlibrary loan duties during the evening hours from 3:00 p.m. until midnight, Sunday through Thursday. The evening supervisor must be able to work without direct supervision. Perform responsible and varied tasks of a mildly complex nature with defined responsibilities within a library setting. Exercises some judgment in the application of guidelines to specific library operations and services. Requires technical operational level skills and basic knowledge of library practices, procedures and software.

Provide patron assistance for a diverse group of users including answering reference and directional questions and assisting faculty and students in the use of a variety of media. The evening supervisor will handle ERes (electronic reserve system requests which may come in the evening. Must be able to move books to and from shelves and push book trucks (up to 200 lbs.). This person must be able to shelve and retrieve books located on tall shelves and lower shelves. The evening supervisor will functionally supervise student staff working in the evening.

Minimum Qualifications.: A high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary.Six months of responsible office experience is necessary. Directly related education or training may be substituted for experience. The ability to type may be necessary depending upon the position available.

Preferred Qualifications: Strong customer service skills, ability to successfully perform detailed work and effective organization, time management and prioritizing skills. Experience with email and word processing software. Library work experience desirable. Computer literacy is essential, as is aptitude for detail work, flexibility, maturity and facility to work independently. Must have good communication skills and the ability and desire to work with faculty, students, staff and other library users. Experience with MERLIN, electronic databases and the Internet helpful. Typing test is required. Applicant must be able to type 30 wpm.

Competency Level Increase Recognition

Congratulations to Nora Tamm and David Shay for successfully qualifying for a competency level increases. Nora moves to LIS II, Level 3, and David moves to LIA, Level 2.

To qualify, David and Nora demonstrated a level of consistency and quality in their work that met the criteria for advancement. Thirty-three library employees have now realized a competency level increase since implementation of the program.
