Gardening seems as close to nature as you can get, except for the 300 million pound of plastic pots and trays used each year in providing you and me with flowers and veggie bedding plants. Then they clutter up our landfills.
For the past 10 years volunteers with the Missouri Botanical Garden have collected more than 300 tons of plastic from nurseries, landscapers, and growers for reprocessing into faux timbers.
The Garden plans to open new collection centers and year-round drop-off boxes and help to set up similar programs all around the country. Way to go Saint Louis! For details visit: http://www.mobot.org/plasticpotrecycling/ .
Remember you can reuse those pots or return them to the nearest gardening/landscaping stores.
