The District is putting on their Living Windows Festival. Starting on December first at 6pm, you will be able to see live performance at some of your favorite spots in Columbia. This will also be free horse drawn carriage rides, the Enchanted forest, Augmented Reality codes, and of course Santa. So come on down, parking will be free. The Nutcracker Ballet is coming to Mizzou on December 6th. This performance will be put on by international cast of dancers and features stunning acrobatics, beautiful costumes, and more. With books bans across the nation having major impacts on schools and libraries, Simon and Schuster is putting together a program to help put a stop to the bans. Their Books Belong is a multi-platform education and resources program is designed to highlight the merits of banned books and give resources to those wanting to overturn bans or wanting to incorporate those banned books into classrooms, libraries, or their everyday life. Calling all artists and writers! There is a new challenge for you to help get your creative ideas flowing. Starting in October you will design your character and have them make a journey through the haunted forest. Every five days will introduce a new setting for you to write about, draw, sculpt, or however else you express yourself. So if you would like to take part in the challenge, check out the link.
Told in the SLAM narrative, this performance, written by Keenan Scott II, celebrates the achievements and triumphs of black men that are often ignored or overlooked. This performance takes place on September 20th at Studio 4. Tickets are just $15. For more information check out the link.
Hey all, Shakespeare’s Pizza, one of the best locally owned pizzerias in Columbia, is having its 50th birthday and they are putting on a celebration. They are offering a free slice of pizza and are having a free concert for anyone who wants to come by. The event takes place on September 23rd, the doors open at 4pm, and the concert starts at 5pm. An exhibit for the late local artist Joanne Berneche will be displayed at the George Caleb Bingham Gallery from August 28th through September 21st with the Reception on September 7th from 4:30-6:30pm. Joanne was a local artist and educator. She taught at many local institutions and was the president of the Columbia Art League from 1979-1981. The exhibited was put together by friends of Joanne and her late husband Jerry and local art leaders. It will feature over 300 works from Joanne. Do you like trains, models, or are you just bored and need something to do? Well the Central Missouri Chapter of the Train Collectors Association is having an open house event at Rock Quarry House. Come by and check out all their model trains and displays. The event is from 10am-2pm on August 19th at Rock Quarry House, 2002 Grindstone Pkwy. It is free and open to the public.
The Midway Country Fest is back. This two day event will feature 10 Country Musicians with Granger Smith being the headliner on Saturday and Tenille Arts on Sunday. The event starts at 3:30pm each night and last until 10pm. To get tickets and for more information, check out the link.
The Boone County Fair is back on July 18th and will be here through July 22nd. There is going to be something for everyone, from rides and games to shows and live music, and plenty of food and drinks to go around.
