New York Public Library Apartments

Many of the old New York Public Library branches were built with apartments in them for custodians and their families. Coal was used to heat many of these buildings and the custodians needed to be there day and night to keep the fires fed. Atlas Obscura has a fascinating article about these old apartments.

“Book Ripper” in the UK

Someone is ripping the pages of books in a bookstore and the public library in the Kent town of Herne Bay. The local police have been notified but so far there are no leads on who the “book ripper” might be. Read more here from The Guardian.
