The library at the University of Cambridge recently received a note saying “Happy Easter” along with…2 of Charles Darwin’s notebooks. They had been missing for over 20 years, but were returned in good condition. π
Full bookshelves in the backgrounds of video calls is not unusual, but how many people out there purchased books for the purpose of showing off their bookshelves during video calls? Apparently enough that there are bookshelf curators you can hire to stock your shelves. The Guardian has an interesting article about it.

It is fun to hear stories of very overdue library books being returned after years, or even decades of being kept by patrons. When the New York Public Library stopped charging late fees last fall, they received thousands of overdue items back. This allowed many patrons to begin using their libraries again. π
A New Zealand Library recently opened to the public when it was supposed to be closed. A error with the way the door locks were programed opened the library to the public with no staff on site. Hundreds of patrons visited the library that day and were able to check out materials using self-checkout. Nothing was stolen.
The Matinicus Island Library, located on Matinicus Isle off the coast of Maine, is very small and run by volunteers. They are countering book bans happening all over the country by adding lots of banned titles to their collection. A fantastic plan. π
Have you ever tried to recall the title of a favorite book from your childhood but can’t quite remember? There is an Instagram account that can help! Users share details they remember of the story, the account owner shares the info, and followers offer suggestions of what the book might be. Read more from NPR. π
A very overdue library book was recently returned to a British library. The person who returned it found it on the side of the road over 60 years ago, but didn’t get around to returning it until recently. The library waived the overdue fees for the patron who originally checked it out. π
