Model Railroading and More

This is a wonderful hobby for those who love trains and/or big projects. This can be a personal hobby or a family one and easily scales to fit a variety of spaces depending on your vision and goals. I’ve seen a range of magnificent displays that included grand waterfalls (real water not included) down to the more traditional cozy towns scattered across the landscape. If you’re afraid you don’t have the space then perhaps you could build your track more vertical than horizontal? And if trains aren’t quite your thing or you don’t have the space for a functioning track, then repurposing the skills and ideas from this hobby might still be for you. Maybe you could make smaller dioramas of your favorite train or book scenes, create your own fantasy landscapes, or similar purposes like a display for collectables such as Breyer models.
If you’re interested in finding out more about this hobby, the National Model Railroad Association’s Beginner’s Guide is a good starting point (https://www.nmra.org/beginners-guide). If you would like to see actual model railroad displays, then the perfect opportunity is coming up on Aug. 17th from 10-2 at the Rock Quarry House.
