Yoga- Now Enrolling
Ashley Jenkins will be teaching a 4-week summer Office Yoga class at Memorial Union on Tuesdays, July 14th to August 8th. The class will meet from 12:10-12:50. Enrollment fee is $8 for the 4 week session. To register please email Ashley at om.yoga@yahoo.com.

25th Anniversary Show-Me STATE GAMES
This summer, the Show-Me STATE GAMES will celebrate its 25th anniversary. Join the celebration by registering as an athlete, signing up to volunteer, or simply attending the Opening Ceremonies and cheering on friends, family and community members! The Show-Me STATE GAMES kick off July 17, and will include more than 40 events during the weekends of July 17-19, July 24-26 and July 31-Aug 2. Personal Safety Seminar

Timothy Fancher will be presenting a FREE Personal Safety Seminar: Preventing Sexual Assault. Join us in Memorial Union, Jesse Wrench Auditorium from 5:00-6:00pm on Wednesday, July 22nd. This seminar will help teach home, auto and personal safety tips. Timothy is a 4th degree black belt in Kenpo Karate, the founder of Fancher’s Street Edge Self-Defense Systems© and former police officer. He has more than 25 years martial arts experience. Invitation to participate in MBSR Study

A research study through the school of nursing is inviting 40 breast cancer survivors to participate in an 8-week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program taught by Dr. Lynn Rossy. MizzouRec Summer Stimulus Program
All faculty, staff, retirees, and non-fee paying students are invited to take advantage of a special summer stimulus package. MizzouRec Complex will offer the chance for all faculty, staff, retirees, and non-fee paying students with a current valid MU ID to use the Rec Complex at a minimal fee of $2/per person per day from May 18th- August 13th. Weight Watchers at Work
There will be two summer Weight Watchers sessions starting in May. All faculty and staff who miss no more than one class qualify for a rebate from Healthy for Life. Split payment plans are available. Please plan to attend one of these Open House sessions for more information:
• Clark Hall, Room 542 on Wednesday, May 13th from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. Enrollment fee is $156 for 13 weeks. ONE more person is needed to enroll in the class in order for it to happen! Please email Melissa Willett at willettmd@umsystem.edu if you would like to participate.
• University Hospital’s School of Medicine, Room M586 on Wednesday, May 27th from 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. (Please note this date has moved from May 20th to May 27th!) Enrollment fee is $186 for 17 weeks.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction
Enroll now for this 8-week program to learn skills for responding to the stresses of life with skill and creativity. Classes include instruction in formal mind/body practices and information about stress, communication, and wellness. Regular class attendance and a commitment of approximately 30-45 minutes of practice per day for the duration of the course are required. Cost of $40 includes 3 CDs and a training manual ($20 to be refunded if you attend 7 of the 8 classes). An orientation session is required to enroll in the class and will be held on Tuesday, June 2 at 5:00 p.m. The 8-week class will be held on Tuesdays (June 9 – July 28) from 5:00 – 7:00 (in the Memorial Union). There will be a full-day retreat (9:00 – 4:00 p.m.) on Saturday, July 18 as part of the class. SPACE IS LIMITED. Body Conditioning
We would like to thank Nani Fudge for her dedication in teaching the lunchtime Body Conditioning class that was open to all faculty and staff. All profits Nani collected went to The United Way. This class has ended for the semester, but is likely to begin again this fall. Please contact Jaclyn Heider at heiderj@umsystem.edu if you would like to be notified when this class begins again.

Chancellor’s Walk
The annual Chancellor’s Walk for MU will be held Wednesday, May 20th with three tours guided by Landscape Services and a power walk provided by Healthy for Life. The Walk is part of Staff Appreciation Week and is sponsored by the Staff Advisory Council and Healthy for Life. Each tour will depart from the South Jesse Plaza at noon, with one focusing on perennials, another on trees and the third on shrubs. The power walk will leave at the same time. Healthy for Life will also be providing FREE blood pressure screenings and information about its programs, in addition to enrolling people in its Million Step Pedometer Program. If you would like to sign up that day, bring cash or check only. Pedometers are $15 and include a free log book.

H1N1 flu strain
“We continue to recommend that individuals follow the health guidelines that have been publicized earlier to avoid the spread of respiratory illness,” said Susan Even, director of the MU Student Health Center. Those recommendations include:
• Practice good hand hygiene, including washing hands and using hand sanitizers.
• Cough or sneeze into a tissue and place it in the trash, or cough or sneeze into your sleeve.
• Stay home until fever and symptoms resolve.
• Seek medical attention only as symptoms warrant.

Phil Sayer 5k Benefit Run/Walk
The MU Fire and Rescue Training and The University of Missouri Extension are sponsoring a 5k run/walk on Friday, June 5th at the North Jeff Pavilion in Jefferson City, MO. Pilates classes
Registration is full! There are no more spaces left in the six week Pilates sessions scheduled at the Mid-Mo gym or in Memorial Union. If you missed this opportunity, there will be another 6 week session this summer. Dates and times will be announced soon.

Preserving the Harvest
Preserving freshly harvested foods provides an opportunity to enjoy those foods throughout the year. A number of workshops are planned to provide you with the latest research-based information to help you preserve foods that will be of the highest quality and safe to eat. Each workshop will also provide you with printed materials, hands-on experience, and solutions to address common food preservation problems. Registration Fee: $10/person/workshop or $25 for all 3 workshops. A second family member may attend for $5/workshop, with each family receiving only one set of handouts. Class size is limited. Workplace Ergonomics
Would you like to better understand basic ergonomics, user-friendly workstations, and office associated ergonomic problems? The majority of associated office ergonomic problems can be corrected by the person experiencing discomfort by following guidelines found here. If problems persist following several weeks since making appropriate changes a request for an on-site evaluation can be made using the questionnaire located in the Related Links box and FAQ found on the website. Occupational Stress Workshops
The University of Missouri Employee Assistance Program (EAP) will provide a series of occupational stress workshops designed to help employees manage a wide variety of stressors connected to the work contact. Healthy for Life recognizes that many off-campus employees won’t be able to join at At-Work meeting, so the wellness program is extending its 25 percent rebate to benefit-eligible employees who enroll in a three-month Weight Watchers Online course for $65 and miss no more than one weigh-in. Pilates– Now enrolling
Kate Lunn is now accepting registration for a 6 week Pilates course starting Wednesday, April 8th at 12:00pm. Classes are 45 minutes and will be held in Memorial Union. Cost is $12 for all 6 weeks. Tobacco Cessation Brown Bag Forum
Dr. Kevin Everett, Associate Professor in Family and Community Medicine, will provide a 30-minute discussion about the newly implemented rules about tobacco use on campus and what options are available for tobacco cessation. Columbia Farmers Market Season Opening
The Columbia Farmers Market is starting their 29th season this Saturday, March 21st. The market will be open every Saturday from 8am-12pm until Saturday, November 21st. The Columbia Farmers Market is held behind the city’s Activity & Recreation Center (ARC), on the corner of Clinkscales & Ash streets. Available products include greens, meats, cheeses, eggs, honey, plants, baked goods and more.

Annual Fitness Award Nominations
The Mayor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Health is sponsoring a Spring Fitness Expo at the ARC on Tuesday evening, May 5th. The highlight of this evening will be the annual fitness awards. Nominations for this award may address one of several areas and include anyone in the community who has made a personal achievement or helped others to reach their goals. Mayor Hindman will present the awards and it is an excellent way to recognize those who are leading healthy lives. Deadline for applications: April 1st. The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health & Human Services is collaborating with University of Missouri Extension, Boone County on
a research study as part of the MU Extension Healthy Lifestyle Initiative. The goal is to create a healthy community that supports the availability of healthy, affordable, locally-produced food and safe, accessible physical activity. The study also supports a Health Department project to develop a community-wide plan to address the obesity epidemic.
