Web Usability Group Membership Update

The Web Usability Group of the Web Advisory Group is pleased to announce that Caryn Scoville, HSL, has joined our group. You may remember that Caryn formerly served as Chair of the Usability Group and conducted usability tests on MERLIN along with Diane Johnson and Michael Spears of HSL.

Caryn replaces Diane Johnson, HSL, whose work has been extremely helpful for the improvement of delivery of information and services to our users.
We want to thank both individuals for all their hard work and assistance.

Web Gateway Redesign Project Fall 2008

The Web Advisory Group (WAG) is redesigning the Libraries gateway page to emphasize library resources and to incorporate the new subject content management system, a LibX toolbar, a comments/suggestions blog and other features. WAG is asking all library staff who are interested to submit a design prototype for the gateway page to WAG by November 1. This work should be considered to be library-sanctioned release time subject to supervisor approval.

The complete outline of the redesign project along with guidelines for creating prototypes are available at

Don’t Make Me Think: Web Usability Book on Reserve

One resource being used by the Web Advisory Group (WAG) for making decisions about the MU Libraries Web site is the book Don’t Make Me Think: A Common Sense Approach to Web Usability by Steve Krug. Two copies are available on 7-day reserve if any non-WAG staff are interested. It is a quick and pretty enjoyable read.
