Competency Level Increase Recognition

Congratulations to Laura Buck for successfully qualifying for a competency level increase. Laura moves to LIS I, Level 4.

To qualify, Laura demonstrated a level of consistency and quality in her work that met the criteria for advancement. Thirty-one library employees have now realized a competency level increase since implementation of the program. Job Vacancy, Security Officer

* Security Officer – 100% FTE; work week days primarily (typically, M-F 6:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.); hours are subject to change based on the needs of the libraries and security personnel. Alternate hours and some weeknights and weekends may be scheduled on occasion. Minimum of $10.00/hr. Administration, Ellis Library.

Duties: Function as the Assistant Head of Security; manage the security department and oversee security efforts when the Head Security Officer is not on duty. Ensure sure day-to-day security operations are running smoothly. Maintain the security and integrity of the library, its employees and its patrons before and during library administration’s regular hours. Responsibilities include opening procedures, locking and unlocking doors as needed, assisting patrons and staff, conducting regular building patrols setting/disarming alarm systems, investigate and report security incidents (e.g., policy violations, thefts, emergencies, etc.), and, in general, coping with any emergency or routine situation as needed. Flexibility in scheduling is essential; must also be willing to respond on short notice to requests for coverage. Must be able to work with minimal direct supervision. Minimum Quals:High school diploma or equivalent is necessary. Possession of a valid Missouri driver’s license is required.

Preferred Quals: Strong interpersonal skills; ability to both follow established guidelines and appropriately respond to unique situations; effective communication skills; ability to work in various situations, ability to speak to groups & organize security seminars. Must be reachable outside of work hours when in the general area. Prior security experience helpful. Basic computer/keyboarding skills are required. Must be able to pass standard First Aid and CPR courses as well as a security background check as a condition of employment.

Job Vacancy, Human Resource Assistant

*Human Resource Assistant – 100% FTE, M-F 8-5, $11.34 – $12.00 per hour. Administrative Offices, Ellis Library

Duties: Work in the MU Libraries Administration office and perform responsible and varied tasks of a moderately complex nature. Serve as first point of contact for Libraries staff, Payroll and MU Human Resource Services regarding payroll/PAF questions and employee relations issues. Requires the ability to exercise independent judgment, resolve moderately complex problems, maintain confidentiality, and serve as a resource on moderately complex HR and payroll practices and procedures.

Duties include but are not limited to: Process bi-weekly and monthly payrolls; complete paperwork for new hires and transfers; assist the library’s Human Resource Manager with policy interpretation, recruitment, and maintenance of employee files; assist with payroll controls process; coordinate student employment paperwork process; maintain budget-related spreadsheets; assist with office coverage of phones and visitors. Success in the job also will be measured against the ability to demonstrate competencies listed in the job description.

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma. Three years experience in human resources, customer service, public relations or a related area. Up to two years of relevant education beyond high school may be substituted for required work experience. Proficiency in multiple computer applications.

Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge and experience with PeopleSoft payroll. Knowledge of basic personnel policies and procedures. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, and Excel; strong organizational skills; good communication and interpersonal skills; ability to analyze & solve problems.
