From UM/MU HR: Preventing Employment Discrimination Training

To help all employees gain a better understanding of what constitutes discrimination and how it can be prevented, UM Human Resources has developed an on-line Preventing Employment Discrimination Training program designed to educate employees about this highly sensitive issue. Our expectation is that every employee should take this training.

Here are the directions to access the training module. This is in the same location as the Preventing Sexual Harassment Training employees took last year.

1. Go to https://myhr.umsystem.edu/psp/prd/?cmd=login

2. Log in with your User ID and Password

3. Click on “Self Service” on the menu

4. Click on “Personal Information” on the menu

5. Click on “HR Training – PED” to commence the training.

6. After reading the Chancellor’s letter select “Continue” at the bottom of the page.

7. On the page labeled “Preventing Employment Discrimination,” select the version of the training module that is applicable to your relationship to the University (e.g., Supervisory or Non-supervisory)

8. Follow the directions in the training module to move through the entire module.

9. Complete the Mastery Test. You must score 80% to pass the test. You may re-take the test as many times as needed to master the information. No record is maintained of how many times you take the test.

10. Once your test score is 80 percent or above, please complete your personal information located at the end of the test and click the button below to create the certificate and record your results. The certificate may be printed and kept as part of your personal records; however, you do not need to send a copy to Human Resource Services.

11. You may need to disable pop up blockers to view this training.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this request.

ASI/Flexible Spending Reminder

The 2009 flexible spending plan year ends 12/31/09; however MU adopted a grace period for health care account participants that allows them to incur expenses through 3/15/10 and use any funds that might be remaining (so that employees don’t forfeit the funds). The deadline to submit claims for the 2009 plan year is 4/15/10 in order to receive all funds from this account. This also means that if you are enrolled in the 2010 plan year, you will have an overlapping period of coverage (1/1/10-3/15/10) so reimbursement will be made from the oldest account first.

Online Pay Stub Reminder

A reminder that MU faculty, staff and student assistants have the option to view their pay stub online. There are several advantages to electing this option:
• Contribute to sustainability and cut down on the use of paper (nearly 500,000 envelopes and pages printed annually)
• Significant savings of time and resources throughout System (nearly $100,000 in printing and postage costs system-wide)
• Time saved in the departments routing pay stubs, requesting reprints from payroll and forwarding pay advices when employees change departments

To switch from paper pay stubs to the online version, go to myHR at the following URL: https://myhr.umsystem.edu. Once signed on using your Paw Print and password, navigate to: Self Service>Personal Information>UM Employee Data. Then click the box associated with the statement: “Check if you want to review your pay advice online through ePay and discontinue receiving a paper pay advice through campus mail.” (See the screen shot below as an example.) Be sure to click ‘Save’ at the bottom of the screen.

Student supervisors are asked to share this information with their student assistants and GLA’s.

EPI Student Sponsorship

The MU Libraries will again host an international student via the English and Professional Immersion (EPI) program offered through MU’s Asian Affairs Center. EPI is for university students from Pacific Rim countries with English skills, high academic standing and a desire to experience American life. Students go through a selection process at their home universities to attend this intense, six-week program.

Jeon Han is our sponsee and will be on-site Tuesdays and Thursdays from Jan. 12 through Feb. 11. Her career interests include libraries and editing. Jeon will spend time at Ellis, Health Sciences, and Journalism libraries.

Announcing the Launch of WebJunction Missouri!

The State Library is pleased to introduce a new education and training portal for Missouri library staff, trustees and volunteers. This new portal, at mo.webjunction.org, is built to work in conjunction with the State Library’s official Web site and enhance the online resources already available for libraries at the national WebJunction.org site. WebJunction Missouri allows you to connect with your library peers, take mini-courses to update skills and keep up with Missouri library news — all at one central online location.

The Home page includes a Missouri Library News discussion list; libraries are invited to share their news and photos via the Missouri Library News Thread. This discussion list is a good place to post information about groundbreakings, new buildings and renovations; new library directors; election results; major donations and grants; or new services offered by your library. Several other areas of the site, such as youth services, adult services, grants, library management, technology tips, training resources and Missouri Digital Heritage among others, also host discussion lists. Identify your areas of interest, connect with your peers and get the conversations started!

Missouri Courses offers over 100 online trainings available at a discount. Course topics cover multiple aspects of library service, including but not limited to, managing technology, software applications, services to various library customer groups, management and planning. Most courses are self-paced, which provide staff and trustees the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skill level at their convenience. Please review the course use policies posted at Missouri Course Policy. Missouri Courses also includes a new CE Calendar listing the offerings of the State Library, MLNC, MOREnet and other training providers in Missouri, with links for registering for the selected events.

Anyone can view information available on Webjunction Missouri, but you must establish your affiliation as a WebJunction Missouri member to post documents, join discussions and access the discounted online courses. To join, go to WebJunction Missouri and create an account. You will create a profile that includes the name of the library for which you work, volunteer, or serve as a trustee. On the Affiliations tab in your profile, check the box to join Missouri. Your request will be processed to verify your eligibility as a Missouri member within 1-2 business days and a confirmation e-mail sent.

State Library staff is eager to use our new online venue to engage with Missouri’s library community. Watch for more information on developments in WebJunction Missouri throughout the coming months. Your suggestions for expanding and improving this new means of learning, sharing ideas, and improving library services are welcome and encouraged.
